José Demetrio Jiménez Sánchez-Mariscal OSA (born October 8, 1963 in Los Cerralbos, Toledo Province , Spain ; † October 23, 2019 in Buenos Aires ) was a Spanish religious and prelate of Cafayate in Argentina .

Life

Demetrio Jiménez Sánchez-Mariscal attended the Minor Seminary of San Agustín in Valencia . In 1980 he joined the order of the Augustinians in Santa María de la Vid in La Vid y Barrios . From 1981 to 1987 he studied at the Augustinian Theological Studies in Los Negrales near Madrid , affiliated with the Pontifical University of Comillas . In 1986 he made his profession and received the sacrament of ordination by the Bishop of Palencia , Nicolás Antonio Castellanos Franco OSA on June 23, 1988 in the monastery of Santa María de la Vid . From 1987 to 1989 he studied philosophy at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas . In 1994 he completed a master's degree in religious studies at the University of Comillas. He was an economist in the monastery of Santa María de la Vid (1989–1995) parish vicar of the Church of San Manuel and San Benito in Madrid (1995–1999). In 1999 he took over various religious functions in Argentina and Uruguay .

On February 10, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Prelate of Cafayate. The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor Mariano Moreno García OSA on May 10 of that year. Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop of Paraná , Estanislao Esteban Cardinal Karlic , and the Archbishop of Salta , Mario Antonio Cargnello .

He died a year after he was diagnosed with cancer.
