The department of Sarmiento is located in the south of the province of Chubut in southern Argentina and is one of the 15 administrative units of the province.

It is bordered by the Paso de Indios department to the north, the Escalante department to the east, the Santa Cruz province to the south and the Río Senguer department to the west .

The capital of the Sarmiento department is Sarmiento .
