The department of Biedma is located in the northeast of the province of Chubut in southern Argentina and is one of the 15 administrative units of the province.
It borders on the province of Río Negro to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Rawson department to the south and the Telsen department to the west .
The capital of the Biedma department is Puerto Madryn , which with 81,995 inhabitants makes up 99 percent of the department's population (as of the census on October 27, 2010). It is located about 1,334 km from Buenos Aires .
