The department of Futaleufú is located in the northwest of the province of Chubut in southern Argentina and is one of 15 administrative units in the province.
It is bordered by the Departamento Cushamen to the north, the Departamento Languiñeo to the east and south and Chile to the west .
The capital of the Futaleufú department is Esquel .
The name of the department comes from the Río Futaleufú , which rises in the Los Alerces National Park and flows through Chile into the Pacific Ocean .
