The Dark Parable Knight (born September 20, 1994 in Halle / Saale , Saxony-Anhalt ; bourgeois Alexander Prinz) is a student, radio presenter, web video producer and entrepreneur as well as founder of the fair trade textile label Von Tiling and an online music magazine the name " Silence Metal-Magazin ". Originally from Nemsdorf (Saxony-Anhalt), he now lives and works in Halle (Saale) .

Life

Alexander Prinz attended secondary school in Querfurt , where he graduated from high school in 2013 as the best of his year. In 2012 he founded the YouTube channel "Der Dunkle Parabelritter", on which he published short films and comedy clips in the early stages. Over time he decided to change the theme of the channel to the musical subgenre of " Heavy Metal ", which can be traced back to his own love for this style of music. He gained particular fame through his reports on music festivals such as Wacken and Ragnarök.

From 2013 to the end of 2018 he studied German and geography at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for a grammar school teacher , which is why some of his videos also deal with the German education system.

In 2014 he founded his second YouTube channel, which, after a realignment in 2016, revolves around mysteries, legends and curiosities from all over the world.

In May 2016, Prinz started with a team of friends, acquaintances and volunteers under the "Silence Metal-Magazin", a non-commercial online music magazine, of which he was editor-in-chief and which deals with metal, the subculture and related genres. Interviews, reviews and columns by the authors are published there. In an interview with Legacy magazine , Prinz stated that he could also imagine publication as a print magazine.

In December 2016, he published an app that functions as a news and video portal and also has exchange functions. This was discontinued by the developer at the end of 2019.

On April 8, 2017, Prinz announced in the video “My own label!” The start of his company called “Von Tiling”, which he founded together with his business partner Jörn Rohrberg. Fair trade textiles with different motifs are sold under this name. This label also produces and sells exclusively merch for bands in the metal and folk genre.

On the last weekend in June 2019 the music festival "Sternenklang Festival" organized by him took place on the Niederburg in Kranichfeld (Thuringia) , where the bands Corvus Corax , Haggard , Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen and Vogelfrey, among others , had performances. The festival was to take place for the second time at this location in June 2020, but had to be postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Since March 2020 he and Maik Weichert (guitarist of the metal band Heaven Shall Burn ) have had a podcast entitled "Zart wie Kruppstahl".

Activity as a YouTuber and journalist

His predominant fame in the metal scene and popularity among young people results from his preoccupation with phenomena of the scene and generally growing up as a young person (topics such as love, recognition, commitment, etc.) and associated appearances as a member of a musical fringe group. He works on relevant topics in videos and also comments on questions. He also asks his fans about important topics and increasingly involves them in the production of further content - also through an app specially created for this purpose.

So far, Alexander Prinz has achieved over 42.5 million views as "The Dark Knight of Parables" with over 172,000 subscribers and over 700 active videos (as of February 2020).

The videos from the largest heavy metal festival in the world and one of the largest open airs in Germany such as the Wacken Open Air (~ 750,000 views) always achieve a particularly large reach . In addition, he was active as a reporter on the Full Metal Cruise and through this activity he is always mentioned by other authors (such as the FAZ ) as an important person in the scene.

Activity as a speaker

Since 2017 he has also been active throughout Germany as a speaker in the fields of new media , (digital) marketing and media education . For example, he was at “Transforming Media 2017” in Nuremberg, the Media Days in Munich and the SOS Children's Villages Media Conference. He also appears as a guest speaker at online congresses such as "Metalheart 2017".

particularities

As mentioned in some of his videos, Prinz suffers from Coats' disease , a rare congenital eye disease with visible enlargements and changes ( telangiectasia ) of the retinal vessels. There are around 1 to 9 cases of illness for every 100,000 people. For cosmetic reasons, he has therefore been wearing a glass eye since the end of 2012 .

With around 172,000 subscribers, his YouTube channel is one of the largest in Saxony-Anhalt and the German metal scene and has so far recorded over 44 million video views with this unique selling point. His videos are also perceived beyond the German scene and viewed as relevant. He is an invited guest at many relevant events. In interviews with media companies, he is often a representative of the young generation listening to metal.

Trivia

The name "The Dark Knight of Parables" alludes to an event in his school days in which he misused a parabolic stencil as a shield in addition to a pointing stick as a sword during a free period in a knight game .
