Soap manufacturer Lallinger would like to take “vacation from marriage” and has had a mountain tour “prescribed” for him by a cone brother and doctor. So that the fraud would not be exposed, he sent the porter of the Innsbruck hotel "Alpenrose" a banknote asking him to send his mail and forward the mail addressed to him to Munich. Lallinger meanwhile has fun in Munich at carnival and artist balls.

Meanwhile, he copied his letter from a mountain book by the mountaineer and writer Hans Lindenburg. Since his wife likes the poetic letter very much, she has it printed for his 50th birthday and distributes the book to employees, friends and acquaintances. While searching for a suitable present for Lallinger's 50th, his friend Professor Huber has come across Lindenburg's book and suspects something terrible.

Meanwhile, Lallinger's wife Johanna not only had the letters printed, but also invited the mountain guides from Lindenburg's book and Lallinger's letters to the birthday party. At the celebration, Lallinger incapacitates the local editor, who was supposed to write a cheering article, with alcohol. The Reintalers are inaugurated in the wine cellar, they play along, Father Reinthaler tells the guests about mountain swings, while Sepp Reintahler takes hold of Lallinger's printed letters.

But Reintahler Gesichten impress Johann Lallinger and the members of the hiking club “Vom Fels zu Meer” who are present so much that they want to accompany him on his next tour of the legendary east face of the “Schreckenstein”.
