Mädchenjäger is a German crime film directed by Züli Aladağ from 2019. It is the second film in the ARD crime film series Der Irland-Krimi . In addition to Declan Conlon , Mercedes Müller , Rafael Gareisen , Vincent Walsh , Chris Newman and Robert McCormack, Désirée Nosbusch plays the leading role of the "sensitive police psychologist Cathrin Blake, who has to struggle with the shadows of the past".

action

“I watch her and then I imagine things, she is so beautiful, her skin is as delicate as porcelain. She has bright red lips and she has braided her hair the way I like it. She is very still. I am the only one who can play with her. She can only move when I'm with her. "

The psychologist Cathrin Blake looks after the young, suicidal Nathan Smith, a so-called traveler , who moves with his clan through Ireland without a permanent residence. Smith has fallen in love with Maggie Dunne, an ambitious young woman, also a traveler like him, who is secretly studying psychology . Both dream of a different, better future. But then Maggie is found dead, murdered and draped and made up like a doll. Sean Kelly asks Cathrin to take a closer look at the young woman, something about this case is strange. Reluctantly, she complies with his request, but then decides to support the police in their work. The perpetrator stabbed his victim 23 times and the young woman was raped.

When witnesses testify that Nathan Smith had a heated argument with Maggie, the young man gets into a mess and is suspected of having committed the crime. Blake, on the other hand, recognizes clear similarities in terms of the sexual fantasies that one of her patients entrusted to her in a therapy conversation. The descriptions of her patient Jack Sweeney are strikingly consistent with the characteristics of the victim. However, Sweeney has repeatedly assured her that he will not act out these violent fantasies.

It cannot be prevented that another young woman dies in a similar way as Maggie Dunne, this time it hits Nora Dunne.

criticism

TV Spielfilm pointed the thumbs up, gave two out of three possible points for demand and tension, one for action and said that director Züli Aladag combined "the psychological thriller with a tricky crime thriller that is always best", " if he leaves the audience to the mood of the country and its people ”. "The shooting on location with many Irish contributors" would have provided "a noticeably authentic representation of the Pavee culture, Ireland's traveling people,". One could certainly have got more out of “the inner conflict of the main character as well as the resolution of the murder case”. In return, “the Irish landscape also creates a magical atmosphere on the TV screen”. Conclusion: "Fantastic Ireland pictures, passably played case."

The critic Tilmann P. Gangloff rated the film for the Berliner Morgenpost and said that the psychologist was “only indirectly involved in the plot this time, which promptly takes away some of her fascination”. Of course, “the psychologist's personal relationship with the two young men is interesting”, but that “doesn't make 'Mädchenjäger' a special film; this story could have been told in this country too ”. Much more interesting is the group to which Nathan belongs: “The clan is a traveling people, so-called travelers, who call themselves Pavee, but are disparagingly referred to by the British and Irish as Tinkers or Gypsies (gypsies), although there are none there are ethnic references to Sinti and Roma. One scene is enough to illustrate how these people are discriminated: When the owner of the hotel where the wedding celebration is to take place learns who has rented the ballroom, he puts the guests in front of the door. "[...]" Almost one "The music of Sebastian Fillenberg, who underlined the boxing match ironically with an Irish fiddle" was "class better than the overall rather average crime thriller" "and later provided dynamism and drama even if the pictures were basically harmless".

Rainer Tittelbach dedicated himself to the series on his page tittelbach.tv . The critic gave 4.5 out of 6 possible stars and said that the Ireland crime thriller is "a lot different from most foreign crime stories in the first". "Désirée Nosbusch, who has long been under-rated, ties in with her brilliant role in ' Bad Banks ' as a psychologist with a mixture of vulnerability and toughness, dark moments and regained sovereignty ". The synchronization of "the main Irish characters" "fits well with Nosbusch's calm, concentrated pitch". The “Irish ambience with the sensuality of its nature, the authenticity of the secondary characters and the psychophysical presence of the main actors” lay “like an atmospheric carpet over the stories whose themes seemed coherent”. "Positive for the eyes and ears" are also "Aladag's staging between Mollton & massive realism, Roland Stuprich's image design and the broad, flat score by Sebastian Fillenberg". Nosbusch succeeds "in giving her character a fascinating mixture of vulnerability and toughness, from a dark past and regained sovereignty". It is "the linchpin of the series". 'Mädchenjäger' captivates “with a good exposure in which the most important figures are socially and psychologically located”.

On the Golden Camera page , Tanja Beeskow recommended the film, which received four out of five possible GOKAs, because “… The second Ireland crime thriller is also devoted to the psychology of its characters, which gives it a distinctly dramatic character. But this does not happen at the expense of tension: the investigations always keep you happy. The case lives from the rugged beauty of Ireland, the mystical setting and the impressive game of Désirée Nosbusch. "

Frank Jürgens from the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung gave the film five out of six possible stars and said that 'Mädchenjäger' from the new series was convincing this time "with a psychologically credible outsider ballad and an exciting case". After the “first promising” episode, the 'Ireland crime thriller' with 'Mädchenjäger' is "really picking up speed" and proving that "it didn't promise too much".

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung was of the opinion that there was "still a lot of salty sea air up". The "extensively used landscape and coastal shots" kept [...] "what nature promises to lovers". There is “not much to complain about” about the first two episodes of the new series. Cathrin Blake “reminds me of a mixture of Dr. Tony Hill and DCI Karen Pirie, two dead characters from Scottish author Val McDermid . Désirée Nosbusch, who, as Luxembourg banker Christel Leblanc , recently made a brilliant acting comeback in ' Bad Banks ' , "gives her broken figure, physically and mimically restrained, especially through the ductus and timbre of her voice, a kind of life-experienced, slow reluctance that pleasantly surprising [e ] ". [...] "Just because of Désirée Nosbusch a sequel would be desirable", it concludes.
