The traitor of the Lord - Judas Iscariot (original title: El beso de Judas - "The Judas kiss") is a Spanish Bible adaptation that focuses on the person of Judas Iscariot . action
Judas Iscariot is a revolutionary Jew who, for political reasons, joins the preacher Jesus, who is revered as the new Messiah. After witnessing his speeches and deeds, including some miracles, he turns away from him disappointed and hands him over to his opponents.
criticism
In the dictionary of fantasy films, Ronald M. Hahn / Volker Jansen, Norbert Stresau rate the film as "a kind of psychological justification for the greatest traitor of all time in the tried and tested musty B-film style." The dictionary of international films noted that he was going " extremely free with the report of the Holy Scriptures (cf. um) and makes use of a theatrical style that hardly goes beyond externals. "
Remarks
The film was shot from August 8 to November 10, 1953 and premiered in February 1954. Until the 1990s, this was the only film that put Judas at the center of the plot.
