The other lover ( French-language festival title: L'amant double, English Amant Double ) is a French feature film by François Ozon from 2017 . The erotic thriller is loosely based on the novel The Other by Joyce Carol Oates . This was already the template for Tim Hunter's film You Only Love Twice (1991).

The film premiered on May 26, 2017 in competition at the 70th Cannes International Film Festival and opened in French cinemas on the same day.

action

Chloé, a former model, suffers from abdominal pain and depression . She then consults the psychotherapist Paul, with whom she falls in love. Months later, the couple moves in together.

Chloé soon realizes that Paul has kept part of his identity a secret from her. He has an identical twin brother named Louis, who also works as a psychologist. Chloé then comes to Louis anonymously as a patient and begins a passionate affair with him . Unlike the gentle Paul, Louis is aggressive and cynical.

When Chloé's pain increases dramatically, she is taken to the hospital for an operation. The doctors found that Chloé was carrying her own twin sister, a parasitic twin .

Awards

The other lover competed for the Palme d'Or , the main prize of the festival, in the competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2017 , but remained unprofitable.
