from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Children's Aid ( DKH , formerly German Children's Aid Direct ) is a nonprofit membership organization based in Berlin that Germany supports projects for needy children and families by their own account.

activity

Deutsche Kinderhilfe is committed to child welfare and children's rights and, according to its own statements, carries out lobbying work for children, including through expert support in legislative processes and project work . The association also takes up topics that are in public discussion such as child abuse and neglect .

The association specifically addresses prominent politicians about taking over a patronage or sponsorship for smaller projects and charity events. Their goals, such as compulsory nutrition courses against obesity and forced home visits by youth welfare offices against neglect, stand for a line of politics of the strong hand of the state; she supports positions of the CDU . The association acts in an advisory capacity for the federal board of the CDU and the round table of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs.

history

The association founded in January 2000 in East Westphalia had 8 regional associations in Berlin-Brandenburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Saxony , Thuringia , Hesse , Lower Saxony , North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria , which were dissolved in 2010 and 2011. In 2006, the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia came under fire and, due to a legal collection audit in Rhineland-Palatinate, gave up its charitable status and changed its statutes. According to its own information, the non-profit regional association of North Rhine-Westphalia is responsible for public relations and the campaigns of German Children's Aid. According to its own information, the federal association had revenues of one million euros for 2007, and in 2008, according to the published balance sheet, almost 800,000 euros.

Controversy

Debate with the German Donation Council

The German Donation Council excluded the association in June 2008. Previously, Kinderhilfe's handling of donations had been criticized as not being transparent. The association law expert Weber, quoted by the world , has withdrawn the allegations made in these articles that the association was founded out of profit after he had received "a mandate from the German Children's Aid Association". Deutsche Kinderhilfe has rejected criticism of its economic structures. According to the company, the immense pressure from the public did not lead to any changes in the structures.

Debate about blocking websites

Deutsche Kinderhilfe received media attention, especially during the controversial debate about the planned Access Difficulty Act in 2009. The association actively supported the federal government's plans to oblige Internet service providers to publish child pornographic websites on the basis of a secret list drawn up by the Federal Criminal Police Office lock. Deutsche Kinderhilfe was accused by several civil rights organizations such as the Chaos Computer Club , the FoeBuD , but also the child protection organization CareChild, of engaging in populist politics and conducting manipulative opinion polls . There were two surveys on the subject that were commissioned by Infratest dimap . In an interview at Die Zeit , the managing director of Infratest Dimap, Richard Hilmer , claimed that there was no contradiction.

Critics of the Internet censorship measures also saw themselves defamed by a signature campaign by Deutsche Kinderhilfe, which was initiated in response to a successful online petition against the law. In May, the contents of which was home of the German Children's Aid of unknowns by a negative text the planned blocking of Internet sites replaced .

The German Medical Assembly adopted, according to the association on his initiative on 22 May 2009 decision to support the legislative initiative to combat child pornography in communications networks . Although the telling reasons for the request by four delegates suggest that Deutsche Kinderhilfe was the author, it does not contain any references to the association.

Debate about religiously motivated boy circumcision

In 2012 the association (supported by MOGiS e.V. - One voice for those affected, professional association of paediatricians , Terre des Femmes , Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter and New Judges Association ) initiated a petition for a two-year moratorium on the circumcision debate , as a reaction on the announcement by the federal government that it would pass a law in autumn 2012 that would make religious circumcision exempt from punishment.
