Devdaha ( Nepali देवदह Devdaha ) is a city ( municipality ) in the central Terai of Nepal in the Rupandehi district .

location

The city is located in the fertile agricultural landscape of the Terai about 10 km north of the border with the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh at an altitude of about 100 to 150 m above sea level. d. M. The neighboring town of Lumbini Sanskritik is only about 10 km (driving distance) in a north-westerly direction.

history

The city was created in 2014 by merging the Village Development Committees Devdaha and Kerawani . Devdaha is east of Butwal . In the north, the 116.6 km² urban area extends to the first Siwalik chain . The main west-east link from Nepal, the Mahendra Rajmarg trunk road , runs through Devdaha.

Residents

At the 2011 census, the VDCs that made up the city of Devdaha had 42,953 inhabitants (19,683 of them male) in 9467 households.

Buddhist tradition

According to tradition, Devadaha was the hometown of Maya , the birth mother of Prince Siddharta Gautama , who later became Buddha , and her sister Mahapajapati Gotami , his foster mother.
