The Schrakelbach in the northern Front Palatinate ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a 6.9 km long brook and an orographically right tributary of the Eckbach .

The Schrakelbach has no actual source , but runs as a ditch with an almost imperceptible gradient essentially from south to north, i.e. transversely to the natural direction of the flow of the Upper Palatinate river. He collects a number of them and feeds their water over the Eckbach to the Rhine .

course

The origin of the Schrakelbach is about 100  m above sea level. NHN Höhe west of the residential development in the Frankenthal district of Flomersheim . District road  6, which connects Flomersheim with Lambsheim , passes 50 m to the south ; initially on average 600 m west of the highway 61 ( Koblenz - Speyer ) runs roughly parallel to the stream . After 1.5 km, just before crossing under Landesstraße  522 (Frankenthal – Lambsheim), the Schrakelbach takes up part of the Fuchsbach water from the left , and the larger amount, while the smaller amount pours south into the Isenach .

Frankenthal motorway junction: Behind the second bridge, the Schrakelbach crosses under the A 6 from left to right.

In a wide arc of Schrakelbach now wraps around the west the Frankenthaler Weiler Ormsheimer yard and then passes under the eastern edge of Heßheim in succession - from south to north - take the road 453 (Frankenthal Heßheim) and - in addition to this from east to west - the A 61. Immediately Behind the motorway bridge, the 3.9 km long Nachtweidgraben flows from Heßheim to the left , which, like the Schrakelbach in some cases, collects water from agricultural irrigation ditches .

The Schrakelbach runs west of the A 61 to the A 6 ( Saarbrücken - Mannheim ), which it crosses from south to north in the western part of the Frankenthal motorway junction . After 500 m, north of the motorway junction, it crosses under the district road 7 ( Heuchelheim - Beindersheim ) and receives the 6 km long Altbach from the left ; this brings back water that was diverted from the Eckbach above, before Laumersheim , for irrigation purposes. Immediately after the confluence, the Schrakelbach crosses under the A 61 for the second time, this time from west to east.

1 km further on, it joins the Eckbach from the right between Beindersheim and Großniedesheim , but still within the Beindersheim district, at a height of about 93  m .

In the area of the Heßheim bypass (Ostspange), which is currently under construction, there will be a slight relocation of the Schrakelbach to the northeast to the A 61 and the Frankenthal motorway junction in 2014/15, although this will not affect the length of the stream. According to the tender, around 13,000 m³ of earth are to be moved.
