Dexter McCoil (* 5. September 1991 in Metairie , Louisiana ) is an American American football - Canadian football - and arena football poker players. He played in the position of safety in the Arena Football League (AFL), Canadian Football League (CFL) and National Football League (NFL).

Career

McCoil played college football at the University of Tulsa . During his career he achieved 315 tackles , 18 interceptions and three appointments to the All- Conference-USA . He graduated with a degree in exercise physiology.

After McCoil in the NFL Draft was not selected in 2013, he attended the rookie minicamp of the Oakland Raiders , but not made it into the 90-man squad. In 2014, he played a few games for the Los Angeles Kiss in the AFL, but was fired mid-season. Subsequently, the Edmonton Eskimos signed him from the CFL. Here he played two seasons in which he scored 144 tackles, six sacks and nine interceptions, three of which he carried back for a touchdown . In his first season, he was voted the most outstanding rookie of the season. In 2015 he won the Gray Cup with the Eskimos . In January 2016, the San Diego Chargers signed McCoil. Here he made the leap into the squad and played in all season games, two of them from the start. He scored 25 tackles and one interception. McCoil made it into the Chargers roster the following season. He played in two games where he scored a tackle on the special teams before being fired in October 2017.

Upon his release, he was signed up by the San Francisco 49ers . He played for them in eight games, scoring a tackle. He was released on April 30, 2018. On August 17, 2018, he was rewritten by the 49ers. As part of the final squad downsizing, McCoil was fired. On September 26, 2018, the 49ers signed up McCoil for their practice squad , but he was released on October 9, 2019. On January 2, 2019, the Chargers signed McCoil for their Practice Squad, but he was injured on the first day and was then placed on the Practice Squad / Injured List.

style

McCoil is seen as a hybrid of safety and linebacker . It is big and physical enough to set up close to the scrimmage line as a run defender or pass rusher in sub-packages , but also mobile enough to play as a deep safety or to take slot receivers into man coverage.
