Dihexyl phthalate is a chemical compound from the group of phthalic acid esters . It often comes as a secondary component (less than 1%) of C 6-10 phthalate mixtures and as an isomer in mixtures of diisohexyl phthalates (DIHP) (CAS no .: 68515-50-4) with a content of 25% or less in front.

Extraction and presentation

Dihexyl phthalate can be obtained by esterifying phthalic anhydride and hexanol in the presence of sulfuric acid.

properties

Dihexyl phthalate is a colorless liquid that is practically insoluble in water.

use

Dihexyl phthalate is used as a plasticizer for cellulose esters and PVC.

safety instructions

Dihexyl phthalate is on the candidate list of substances of very high concern ( SVHC ).

proof

Dihexyl phthalate can be detected by capillary gas chromatography .
