Diamond Life (Engl., About: Luxusleben) is the debut album of the Nigerian-British singer Sade . It was released by Epic Records in 1984 .
Origin and content
The recordings for the nine titles under the producer Robin Millar began in 1983 in the Power Plant Studios in London . The album is regarded as a style-defining example of the sophisticated pop that emerged in the mid-1980s .
Smooth Operator was written by Sade Adu and Ray St. John, the following seven titles by Sade Adu and Stuart Matthewman. The album also includes a cover version of Timmy Thomas's 1972 track Why Can't We Live Together .
It was released on July 16, 1984 by Epic Records in the UK and on July 21, 1984 in Germany. In the US, Portrait Records only released the album on February 25, 1985. The first single in Europe Your Love Is King was released on February 6, 1984, in the USA Hang on to Your Love was released on December 8, 1984. In addition, the tracks When Am I Going to Make a Living (May 1984) and Smooth Operator (September 1984) were released as the most internationally successful single.

After a slow start, the album became a great success in many European countries and in the USA. While it took second place in the British album charts, the album reached number one in the charts in Germany , Austria and Switzerland .
