The blended family Jensen Bauer, consisting of Father Ryan Bauer with daughter Ellie and son Cameron and mother Sophia Jensen with daughter Piper and son Nate, embarks on a cruise to the Caribbean . During this trip, Ryan has to present an app he has developed , the only copy of which is on his tablet , and the success of which will determine his future career. There are numerous disputes among the siblings because the “new” family members are not accepted. When they arrive on the ship, they meet Ryan's boss, Mr. Bragg, who again explains the importance of his presentation to him, and his arrogant daughter Melina. Ryan stows the tablet in the safe in the children's cabin. On the first evening of the cruise, the family attends a hypnosis demonstration. Ellie, Cameron, Piper and Nate are brought on stage and hypnotized.
The next morning, the four wake up in their completely devastated cabin. Everyone is dressed up like pirates. An artificial leg is handcuffed to Ellie's arm, Piper is measuring her mother's jewelry, Nate is sitting in the bathtub, which is filled with a strongly coloring, purple liquid, and a sea lion is sitting in the bathroom. None of the four can remember what happened last night, and finally the children discover that their father's tablet is no longer in the safe. Since the presentation of the app is to take place in the evening, they try to reconstruct the course of the night. They discover a text message from an unknown admirer on Ellie's cell phone, Cameron has apparently challenged a strange boy to a duel and Piper has exchanged her mother's jewelry with Melina for a belt. During their research into the events of the night, the four of them are followed by the head of ship security ("HOSS" for short), who discovered some of the children's actions on surveillance tapes and wants to hold them accountable. Ellie, Cameron, Piper and Nate realize that only together can they solve what happened, find the tablet again and thus save their father's career. With the help of a waiter, who turns out to be the ship owner's son, they can shake off HOSS. Cameron defeats the strange boy in a duel, and Piper manages to get her mother's jewelry back. Ellie finds out that the prosthetic leg belongs to Ryan's boss, and with Nate's support she manages to return the prosthesis to him undetected. Finally, the four siblings find the tablet and slip it into Ryan without being noticed shortly before the presentation. There it is unintentionally destroyed, which endangers the event again. With the help of Melina, Ellie, Piper and Nate manage to postpone the performance with an improvised musical performance until Cameron can perform the presentation using his portable game console; the event will be a complete success.
On the evening of the presentation it turns out that the scavenger hunt for the tablet was staged by the hypnotist who wanted to use it to bring the apparently divided children together into a family. Piper also discovers that the unknown text message on Ellie's cell phone came from pop star Cody Simpson, who made a surprise appearance on the trip.

The Chaos Cruise is set in the Caribbean, but the film was shot in Vancouver , Canada . During filming, it often rained and the temperatures were relatively low, so the actors were fitted with warming pillows under their clothes to prevent freezing and to create a summery Caribbean atmosphere.
The main characters in the film have all appeared in other Nickelodeon series productions. Kira Kosarin plays Phoebe in The Thundermans , Benjamin Flores, Jr portrayed Louie Preston in Fully Vergeistert , Sydney Park starred in the sitcom Instant Mom, and Rio Mangini starred in Ace McFumbles on Bella and the Bulldogs .

The US non-profit organization Common Sense Media , which analyzes film productions from a child-friendly point of view, rated The Chaos Cruise with four out of five stars. The film is a crazy adventure comedy that is particularly popular with younger viewers, not least because of the appearance of pop star Cody Simpson. The illustration of the necessity of human coexistence and family values is particularly positively emphasized.
