occupation

The kings of the street is a short film from 2011 by Daniel Rakete Siegel .

action

Malte and Torben spend the boring summer holidays of their lives. The mother works and there are no peers in her settlement. The two brothers kill time by stealing from kiosks, unscrewing street signs and roaming through strange gardens.

When a younger boy moves into the settlement, the two apparently make friends with him. As a test of courage, they send him to someone else's garden, where he is bitten in the calf by a dog. At first completely shocked, the brothers decide to take care of the gaping wound themselves. Ultimately, all they have left is amputation of the leg. They pour alcohol into the newcomer and begin the operation with a bread knife.

background

The film was shot on ten days of shooting in the autumn of 2009 in Cologne and the surrounding area as a co-production between the Cologne Academy of Media Arts and the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences .

criticism

“The children's actors in particular are great. The story is told crystal clear and sharply. I like it when a short film doesn't want to tell too much, but rather restricts itself to a small situation. "

Festivals

The film was shown as part of the Max Ophüls Prize 2011 film festival and the 2011 Shocking Shorts Award , in which it was one of the three finalists.
