The Claw is an American film about Sherlock Holmes that, like most of the series , is not based on any of the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle . The film story comes from the pen of screenwriter Paul Gangelin .
action
Mysterious things are going on in a village in Canada and are being discussed at an occult conference. Sherlock Holmes attends such a conference and learns that Lady Penrose, the wife of Lord Penrose, was murdered in La Morte Rouge. She was found with her throat cut in the village chapel.
The belief in an occult phenomenon is reinforced by Lord Penrose. Holmes and Dr. Watson try to solve the case with elementary logic. Holmes digs into the past of the dead and discovers that Lady Penrose was in truth the long-missing actress Lillian Gentry.
In the moor he meets the legendary monster that seems to glow in the dark. After further murders of Judge Brisson and later also of Marie, the daughter of the hotel owner Emile Journet, Sherlock Holmes comes on the trail of the murderer. The modus operandi is always death by a small garden rake .
German synchronization
The German dubbed version was created in 1969 on German television broadcasting in the GDR and was first broadcast on May 22, 1969. The main roles were spoken by Walter Niklaus (Sherlock Holmes) and Alfred Bohl (Dr. Watson).
