action

In their fifth joint case, Major Peter Palfinger and Chief Detective Hubert Mur from Traunstein are investigating a murder case in the Capuchin monastery in Salzburg , where Palfinger's brother Sebastian wants to hear the confession. He finds a body in the monastery church. Brother Jakob, who took care of the bookkeeping in the monastery, was killed with an iron cross. Palfinger learns from the archbishop that the victim was not a real monk, but a key witness in the witness protection program . Tristan Wolf was a banker from Munich who cheated on his customers with a Ponzi scheme so that they lost a lot of money. After the victim was from Munich, the case also falls under the jurisdiction of Hubert Mur.

He suspects a connection with one of his earlier cases. At that time Sophie Wacker, daughter of Andreas Wacker, the trainer and sponsor of Hubert Mur at the police academy, was murdered. Wolf was Sophie's manager. Mur was also responsible for the investigation back then and suspects Hermann Sturm of murdering Sophie Wacker and now Wolf three weeks before the start of the trial. Wolf was the main witness in the trial against Sturm. Palfinger has the DNA from the current crime scene compared with the DNA from the Sophie Wacker murder case, so both cases are about the same perpetrator. After Mur knocked down Hermann Sturm due to a provocation, he was withdrawn from the case by his superior Thorsten Möller and subsequently temporarily removed from duty. Andreas Wacker then obtained a house search from the public prosecutor in Hermann Sturm's villa.

In the blood pool of the victim there is a print of a woman's shoe. This comes from Rosa Wimmer, who works as a cleaning lady in the monastery and was caught stealing by brother Jakob and was subsequently blackmailed by him, he demanded sexual favors from her. Wimmer is temporarily the main suspect. Tristan Wolf had again founded an Internet investment platform in Salzburg based on the Ponzi scheme, one of his investors was friar Johannes Zauner, who had lost his inheritance and is therefore also suspect. Brother Johannes says that he followed Wolf to the Salzburger Landesbank, where Wolf was in the vault. Major Palfinger receives a key to a locker from Johannes. Based on a plane ticket and an apartment near the airport, Palfinger suspects that Wolf wanted to use 3.5 million euros in cash from the locker to go to Macau because there is no extradition agreement with this country . Andreas Wacker, Murs' trainer, has been working at the airport for some time.

Mur and Russmeyer follow the GPS coordinates of a cell phone that Sturm had previously contacted from a phone booth. Russmeyer was shot at the location where the cell phone was found. Mur saves her life by tying her arm with his belt. Here too he suspects Sturm as the perpetrator. On the recordings of a wildlife camera near the crime scene, there are recordings of Thorsten Möller with a rifle. Möller is arrested, Mur suspects he was smeared by the storm.

After Russmeyer and Palfinger want to ask Andreas Wacker about his relationship with Wolf, Wacker refuses to leave the house and threatens to shoot himself. He tells Mur that he happened to meet Wolf at the airport. Mur initially suspects that Wacker had murdered Wolf because he was to blame for the death of his daughter. Wacker, on the other hand, admits that he was to blame for his daughter's death. During an argument between him and his daughter, she hit the back of the head and succumbed to her injuries. Wolf had a bad influence on his daughter, who at the time had embezzled customer funds together. After Wacker met Wolf by chance at the airport, he personally took revenge on him.

After Major Peter Palfinger and his girlfriend Angela Doll decide to move in together in a barrier-free apartment, she tells him that she has received a job offer from Boston . Prelate Sebastian Palfinger is persecuted by Eva Plank, she claims to be pregnant by him. After Plank loses the child, she confesses to having named Prelate Palfinger as the father because he would have been the best father for her child. Prelate Palfinger tells his brother that he is considering resigning because the incident has rekindled his desire for a family of his own. In addition, Mur and his wife, who is separated from him, get closer again after the shot at him and Russmeyer.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv found that the fifth episode in the series could have been filmed as a thriller. Unlike the first films, the film is not a smirking thriller, but in places it is quite funny. The all-round successful overall quality also has to do with the well-coordinated teams in front of and behind the camera. Small, cheerful moments never worked as an excuse so that the supporting actors also have something to do.

Laura Friedrich wrote onquotemeter.de that the quick-witted teasing between the Bavarian and Austrian colleagues, which usually loosened up the series with humor, was quite sporadic in this issue. A little too hectic and complicated, the fifth part of the series clears up two murder cases at once and does not save on suspects or unexpected twists. The actors would do a good job and thus enhance the somewhat dry plot.

Matthias Hannemann gave a similar verdict in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung : "Religious entertainment, reliably managed by a team of investigators who this time are almost too friendly with each other, without the pepper that some of the first episodes bribed with."

Audience rating

When the film was first broadcast on ORF, an average of 879,000 viewers followed, corresponding to a market share of 30 percent.

In Germany, 6.58 million people saw the film when it was first broadcast on ZDF , with a market share of 19.3 percent.
