The wisdom of the clouds is a German television - drama from the year 2008 .

Geophysicist Marie Faber is an aspiring, quiet and hypothermic scientist. The 36-year-old dean's daughter is about to complete her habilitation. She herself hardly has any contact with people, not even with her boyfriend, the bookseller Max. But suddenly the 20-year-old Tom appears in her life. By unsolicited mowing the lawn, fiddling with her car, and spending time at her university, he begins to attract her attention. When he persuaded her to have coffee together, he told her about his life. He ran away from home and now lives with his girlfriend Uli, from whom he borrowed 5000 euros to record his first record.
After a while they get closer, and Marie learns more and more details from Tom's life. He dreams of a cloud that he can never reach. Marie suspects that the meeting with him was more than a coincidence: Tom is her biological son, whom she gave up for adoption 20 years ago. In an argument with his adoptive father Georg, Tom found out about Marie.
She now agrees that Tom will move in with her. But suddenly Katrin and Georg appear who want their son back. However, they fail and give up in resignation.
While Marie is giving her habilitation lecture, Tom visits his parents' apartment again. Georg offers Tom to help him pay off his debts by delivering fireworks. When Tom throws away a cigarette, an accident happens that leads to an explosion that injures Georg.
Marie finds out about this during the habilitation ceremony and immediately rushes to the clinic. In doing so she sees how touchingly Tom takes care of Georg and Katrin. Marie realizes that she has no business in the family, asks Katrin for her forgiveness and leaves.
Only after a long time does Tom find out that Marie separated from her boyfriend and is now looking for him again.

The film was shot from June 26 to July 25, 2007. Its German premiere was on July 11, 2008 on ARTE . It was seen by 4.5 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of 13.9 percent.
