The most amazing stories of Donald Duck - special issue for which numbers 105 to 166 officially Donald Duck special issue titled, shortly also DDSH , TGDD or TGDDSH , is since 1965 in Ehapa publishing house appearing German-language comic - magazine . It is mostly limited to comics from the Duck universe. Most of the 68-page issues are published monthly to this day.

history

The first edition, published in May 1965 was a reprint of the 1964 in Gold Key published in the US specification The Best of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge . It contained the two comics Das Gespenst von Duckenburgh and Donald Duck and the golden helmet by Carl Barks as well as a cover picture redrawn by Tony Strobl . For the German edition, two one-page Carl Barks comics have been left out in the inner cover. While numerous other issues followed at irregular intervals in the USA, the German edition was the beginning of a regular, initially quarterly series of issues. From the second issue onwards, the choice of stories was no longer based on an American model.

In the early years the booklet included mainly reprints of the Donald Duck comic books from the series of booklets Mickey Mouse , among which are many stories of Carl Barks were. The translator Erika Fuchs revised her translations for these reprints.

In the 1980s one began to increasingly reprint previously unpublished comics by Carl Barks in German-speaking countries. At that time Erika Fuchs only devoted herself to translating these stories.

Now that most of the Barks stories have been published in this series of issues, the current editions mainly contain stories by other well-known artists such as u. a. William Van Horn , Vicar , Marco Rota , Daniel Branca and Mau Heymans . Around half of the stories are currently first published in Germany, the other stories previously appeared in Mickey Mouse or other Disney publications, whereby at least 7 years must have passed since the last magazine publication.

Since DDSH 105 (1990) there is also a two-page editorial section, the “Entenhausener Geschichte (n)” by Wolfgang J. Fuchs , which often includes portraits and interviews with famous illustrators. In DDSH 384 (May 2019) Wolfgang J. Fuchs reported in the "Entenhausener Geschichte (n)" about the Bertel Express and Duckipedia . In the last few years, a section of letters to the editor and an “expert quiz” have also been introduced. The “expert quiz” is now only used for special events.

In 2000 a table of contents was introduced that includes authors and illustrators of the comics.

A two-sided readers' forum has existed since 2002, in which letters to the editor are published and commented on and answered by the editors. In 2016, the editors considered reducing this to one page due to fewer letters, but this was not implemented. From January 2019 (since DDSH 380) the reader forum was shortened by one page.

From 2014 to 2016 there were also specialist articles from the magazine Der Donaldist , the central organ of DONALD , in the DDSH.

Since issue 359, there have been irregular “wish comic elections”, in which readers can vote which comic out of three available for election will make it into the DDSH.

In issue 364 (September 2017) there was for the first time a “desired cover choice” in which readers could vote on their favorite cover. The cover with the most votes was published on DDSH 366 (November 2017).

So far, over 380 issues of the DDSH have appeared in the first edition.

Reprints

In 1995 a facsimile reprint of the first edition was published, only the cover was given a new price. From October 2008 facsimile reprints of issues 1 to 50 appeared, each in cassettes of ten issues. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the DDSH 2015, the limited and high-quality collector's edition “ The Greatest Stories From Donald Duck Special Issue - The Anniversary Albums (Subtitle: The Best From 1965 To Today)” was published. This consisted of two comic albums, a slipcase for storage and a certificate proving the limitation. It was accompanied by a facsimile reprint of the first edition.

From 1983 a second edition appeared, beginning with number 40. The series was discontinued in 2002 with issue 145. In some cases, changes were made to the second edition, e.g. B. Cover exchanged. The first 39 issues did not appear as a second edition because the Barks comics contained therein had only been reprinted a few years earlier in the “Goofy Magazin” series.
