Diedelkopf is a district of the small town of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until 1939 it was an independent municipality.

location

The place is located in the so-called Musikantenland , a sub-area of ​​the North Palatinate Uplands immediately west of the city center and has now grown together structurally, so that spatial separation is no longer possible. Locally, the uniting Bledesbach and Pfeffelbach to Kuselbach . To the north-east is the local community of Blaubach , whose settlement area has also almost grown together with Diedelkopf.

history

Diedelkopf initially belonged to the County of Veldenz and from the 15th century to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Diedelkopf was incorporated into the Kusel canton . In 1815 the place Austria was added. Just one year later, the place changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 the place was part of the Landkommissariat Kusel , which was then converted into a district office.

In 1928 Diedelkopf had 483 residents who lived in 73 residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Kusel at the time. In 1939 Diedelkopf was incorporated into the neighboring town of Kusel.

Mayor

Michael Brückner (SPD) became the mayor of Diedelkopf on February 21, 2017. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 74.54%.

Brückner's predecessor Bernd Gilcher (SPD), who died in 2016, had held the office since 1991.

Culture

With a bridge over the Kuselbach from 1744 and the steam bakery from 1912, there are a total of two objects on site that are listed .

From 1936 Diedelkopf had a stop on the Türkismühle – Kusel railway line . The train station was in the center of the village. As early as May 1936, six months before the continuous line was opened, the section of the line coming from the east to the station was completed. As a result, it temporarily had the function of a terminus. In 1959 the station was closed due to insufficient use. In the period that followed, the line was shut down and dismantled on site in 1971. In the meantime, the Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg has been laid out on the railway line . The federal highway 420 also runs through the town .

Institutions

There is a local soccer club, the SG Blaubach-Diedelkopf , whose facilities, however, are largely located within the boundaries of the neighboring community of Ruthweiler .
