Diedenhofen capitular
The Diedenhofen capitular is a double capitular (royal order) from Charlemagne , which was issued towards the end of 805 in Diedenhofen (today Thionville / France), where the emperor stayed at least since December 12th and over the Christmas period. In the second of these capitularies, the cities of Magdeburg and Forchheim are mentioned for the first time.
Essentially, the Diedenhof Capitular is a kind of “arms embargo” of the Franks against the Slavs . In the document, the named cities were forbidden to trade arms with the Slavs. These are along the former Slavic border: Bardowick , "Skaesla", Magdeburg, Erfurt , Hallstadt (near Bamberg ), Forchheim, Premberg (today a district of Teublitz near Schwandorf ), Regensburg and Lorch .
Historians disagree as to which place is meant by the aforementioned "Skaesla". The list shows a clear order from north to south. Accordingly, “Skaesla” should be between Bardowick and Magdeburg. The Hitzacker (Elbe) , located at the mouth of the Jeetzel and the Elbe , is more likely than the Scheeßel , which is a long way from the Slavic border, or even further, to claim to be the Skaesla that was discovered near the Meetschow castle wall Scheßlitz near Bamberg to the south .
The original Diedenhof chapter is no longer preserved, only copies from the High Middle Ages .
