Dienogest is a synthetic progestin that as a hormonal contraceptive for contraception and for the treatment of menstrual problems, acne and endometriosis is used in women.

Dienogest has an antiandrogenic effect and is therefore one of the receptor blockers. Dienogest comprises a single 19-Norge days no estrogenic , anti-estrogenic or androgenic in partial action.

Dienogest was first synthesized in 1979 as STS 557 in Jena. It showed 10 times the potency compared to levonorgestrel . 1995 was micro pill Valette ® of Jena Pharm launched. In May 2010, Visanne, the first monopreparation for the indication of endometriosis, was introduced.
