Dieter Chmelar (born October 26, 1957 in Mödling , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian journalist , television presenter and cabaret artist .

Life

Chmelar graduated from high school and then pursued various fields of study (interpreting, sports, journalism), but none of which he completed. He also worked as a dress man and small film actor. From 1980 he worked as a journalist. He initially worked as a sports editor for the Arbeiter-Zeitung , was a freelancer for Ö3 and the Bunten, and as a sports columnist for The Whole Week . He later became head of the Basta magazine . Chmelar also worked on the biographies of Toni Polster and Rainhard Fendrich . Chmelar is currently working full-time as an editor for the daily newspaper Kurier .

From 1988 onwards, Chmelar appeared on television as a reporter for Seitenblicke magazine, and he also acted as moderator for the television magazine Vera . When choosing a presenter for the millionaire show , Dieter Chmelar was on the shortlist, but Armin Assinger was preferred to him. He also moderated the daily television program Willkommen Österreich together with others . At the end of 2003, his contract was no longer renewed.

In early 2004, Chmelar received its own daily talk show called Chmelar live on the Austrian private broadcaster ATV . The broadcaster advertised the talk show with large posters depicting Chmelar with predatory teeth and on a chain.

Chmelar also worked as a gag writer z. B. for the Herzblatt moderation by Rainhard Fendrich and as a co-author for the programs of various cabaret artists. In 2008 he played with Dolores Schmidinger in the play Hot Hunger at the Vienna Rabenhof Theater . From February 2010 he was on stage with Alfons Haider in the cabaret piece "Kalt warm". In the following summer he played one of the leading roles in the comedy "Shards bring luck" directed by Felix Dvorak at his Berndorfer Festival. He also appears repeatedly as a guest on various talk shows such as Talk of Town ( Puls 4 ) and Club 2 (ORF).

In April 2018 he celebrated his first solo cabaret "Don't you know who I was?"
