Dietrich Becker (born December 16, 1940 in Cammin i. Pom. ) Is a German painter .

Life

Becker graduated from high school in Wolgast in 1959 and began making his first attempts at painting and drawing in high school. At the University of Rostock he completed an agricultural degree, which he graduated with a diploma in 1965. During his studies he attended the painting and drawing circle of the university under the direction of Karl-Heinz Kuhn . In the early years of his artistic activity, he found inspiration, support and encouragement from Otto Niemeyer-Holstein and Kate Diehn-Bitt , two important representatives of northern German painting. There was a friendly relationship with both of them until their death. Connections to the Rostock painters Johannes Müller , Mechthild and Lothar Mannewitz , Jürgen Weber, Bernhard Koban as well as to the sculptor Jo Jastram influenced his artistic development. At the same time, he cultivated intensive contacts and a lively exchange of ideas with painter colleagues on Usedom , in Berlin and Dresden . Visits to large galleries and museums as well as study trips at home and abroad broadened his view of the visual arts . In 1964, while still a student, he became a candidate for the Association of Visual Artists . Becker had been a member of the GDR's Association of Visual Artists since 1969 and joined the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Artists' Association in 1990 . Dietrich Becker has been a freelance painter and graphic artist since 1966 , first in an old fisherman's house on Bauerberg near Wehrland / Wolgast district , then in Kühlungsborn and now in his home and studio in Bastorf near Kühlungsborn.
