Life

Klävemann came from an old Oldenburg family, which was first mentioned in 1311. He was the second youngest son of the elder and businessman Johann Dietrich Klävemann (1769–1857) and his second wife Susanne geb. Freye. His brother was the businessman and long-time Oldenburg city councilor Carl Klävemann .

Klävemann attended pre-school and the old grammar school in Oldenburg ; He did his Abitur at the Grand Ducal Gymnasium in Eutin , which had come to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg in 1803 with the Principality of Lübeck . He studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Universität Jena . He was a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg (1833) and the Corps Friso-Oldenburgia Göttingen (1835). The Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin graduated him as Dr. iur. He then studied music as an accompanying subject for a year.

After taking the state examination in 1842, he joined the grand-ducal administration of Oldenburg. He came to Burhave (1843) and Westerstede (1845) as an auditor . He was an official auditor in Ganderkesee (1846) and Brake (1849). After he had passed the assessor examination, he became a state syndic in Oldenburg in 1851 . After three years as head of administration in Löningen , he was elected city director of Varel on July 28, 1859 . In this new field of activity, he redefined the Varel administration - above all the distribution of assets and burdens between the urban and rural communities of Varel . He also stepped forward in the construction of new streets and squares and contractually secured the connection between Varels and the Oldenburg – Wilhelmshaven railway line, which was still to be built . During his tenure, Varel received public gas lighting in 1861 .

Klävemann emerged in Varel as a sponsor of the city with his own funds, financed, among other things, a custodian for small children and looked after the Varel Singverein, whose conductor he was in the 1960s and 1970s. After his retirement in 1880, he moved to his parents' house in Oldenburg, where he mainly dealt with the administration of his property and his extensive forest holdings. Here, too, he played a leading role as an active member of the Oldenburger Singverein and composed songs, string quartets, piano sonatas and chorales.

From 1849 to 1863 he was elected to the Oldenburg state parliament with interruptions . He was a member of the Oldenburg Casino Society .

Like his brother, Oldenburg councilor Carl Hermann Klävemann , who remained unmarried, he bequeathed 150,000 marks and a 5 hectare property to the Klävemann Foundation in Oldenburg .
