Digimon Universe: App Monsters ( Jap. : デジモンユニバースアプリモンスターズ, Dejimon Yunibāsu Apuri Monsutāzu ) is a Japanese multimedia project of Toei Company , Dentsu and Bandai Namco Holdings . It is the seventh official season of the Digimon franchise. It is also the first official season for Digimon after WiZ became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings on September 30, 2016.

In 2045, technology has finally become a prosperity for the world. The World Wide Web has become a world for "app monsters" (プ リ モ ン ス タ ー Ap, Apurimonsutāzu) or "appmons", artificially intelligent beings born in mobile apps . The series focuses on Haru Shinkai, an everyday junior high student. One day he discovers an appmon lurking in his smartphone and turns out to be a gatchmon, and the two become partners. Haru also learns from Gatchmon that Leviathan artificial intelligence creates viruses to turn all Appmons off, and the two team up to stop them. As the series progresses, Haru gets the help of rookie idol Eri Karan, famous AppTuber Torajirou Asuka, child prodigy hacker Rei Katsura, who is in search of his younger brother who was kidnapped by Leviathan and Haru's best friend Yūjin Ōzora teamed up with their own appmon to help fight Leviathan and restore balance between their two worlds.
