Digimon Adventure 02 ( jap. デジモンアドベンチャー02 , Dejimon Adobenchā 02 , speak English. Zero-two ), also known as Digimon Adventure 02 , the second called Anime - TV series of Digimon - franchises . The anime was produced by the Tōei Animation studio and broadcast on television in Japan and several other countries, including Germany.

The series is the direct sequel to Digimon and takes place three years after the events of this in 2002. The anime can be classified into the genres of Shons , Adventure , Action and Science Fiction . 2015 followed with Digimon Adventure tri. a continuation.

content

Digimon 02 takes place in the same world as the first series and follows on from its plot. Except for the characters TK Takaishi and Kari Yagami , the former main characters only appear in supporting roles.

technology

As in the previous series , each of the main characters has a Digimon partner and a Digivice . The Digivice owned by the six new generation Digiritters is called the D3 Digivice . In addition to the basic functions of the previous model, a D3 Digivice also has the ability to open digitors , which serve as access to the digital world . The original Digivice is not able to perform this function. As soon as a digitor is opened, owners of a previous model can still cross the dimensional gap.

In addition to the normal ( 進化 Shinka ), ultra ( 超 進化 Chō Shinka , "Super Evolution" ) and warp digitation ( ワ ー プ 進化Wāpu Shinka ) from the previous series, several new types of digitization are introduced:

Armor Digitation (ア ー マ ー 進化Āmā Shinka , "Armor Evolution" )

In this ancient form of evolution, a Digimon merges with a Digi Armor Egg ( デ ジ メ ン タ ル Dejimentaru , "Digimental" ), which is stored in a PDA- like device called a Digi-Terminal. There are nine Digi Armor Eggs, each representing a character trait of the respective owner.

DNA digitation (ジ ョ グ レ ス 進化Joguresu Shinka , "Jogress Evolution" )

The DNA-Digitation is an artificial development process in which two or more Digimon unite to a Digimon of a higher level. In Digimon 02 there are two champion-level Digimon who unite to reach the ultra-level together. This is made possible by Gatomon's sacred ring, which passed into Gennai's possession after the fall of the Digimon emperor.

Mega-Digitation (究 極 進化Kyūkyoku Shinka , "Ultimate Evolution" )

In mega-digitation, an ultra-digimon develops into its final form.

Mode change (モ ー ド ・ チ ェ ン ジMōdo Chenji )

A mode change is actually not a real digitation, as no new level is reached. Instead, a mega-level Digimon switches to a new mode in which it has changed skills.

prehistory

After the fight between Omnimon ( オ メ ガ モ ン , Omegamon ) and Diaboromon (see Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game! ), The Digiritter of the first series were recalled to the digital world by Gennai in May 2000. In order to restore peace in the Digiworld, the children had to free the mysterious power to protect the world that was suppressed by the forces of darkness. By releasing the energy of their coats of arms, they freed the digital world from the dark currents of energy on the one hand and destroyed the seals that the four sacred animals ( 四 聖 獣 , Shiseijū ) Azulongmon ( チ ン ロ ン モ ン , Chinronmon , " Qinglong mon"), Zhuqiaomon ( ス ー ツ ェ ー モ ン , Sūtsēmon , " Zhuque mon"), Ebonwumon ( シ ェ ン ウ ー モ ン , Shen'ūmon , " Xuanwu mon") and Baihu mon ( バ イ フ ー モ ン , Baifūmon ) were imprisoned. However, this had the consequence that the Digimon of the Digiritter were no longer able to digitize to the ultra or mega level.

In August 2000 a Digivice appeared in front of the boys Sammy (Osamu) and his younger brother Ken Ichijōji. Against his brother's wishes, Ken took this one day and was then brought into the digital world. Once there, he met Wormmon and Ryo Akiyama. Together they fought against Millenniummon . The group managed to defeat the Digimon, but before it died, it released the seeds of darkness . One of them penetrated Ken's throat.

When Sammy was run over by a car shortly afterwards and succumbed to his injuries, Ken was filled with grief. He then received an email asking him to travel to the Digiwelt. The seeds of darkness in him opened a gate to the world of darkness instead . There, Ken immersed his Digivice in the sea of darkness, whereupon it turned into a D3 Digivice. When he subsequently returned to the real world, the seeds of darkness became active and, over time, both his physical and mental abilities rose to an exceptionally high level. At the same time, however, his indifference to his parents and society increased dramatically because he viewed everyone else as inferior. He returned to the digital world and began to conquer it as Digimon emperor . Azulongmon and the other sacred animals then activated the Digi-Armor Eggs, selected some Digimon that had the old power of Armor Digitation, and let them fall asleep. They also developed three more D3 digivices to be able to face the dark forces and sent them to three chosen children who had come into contact with Digimon in August 1999 and March 2000.

action

This plot of the series begins in April 2002. The Digiworld is threatened by the Digimon Emperor who tries to subjugate all Digimon with the help of black towers and rings. The emperor treats his subordinates cruelly and does not understand the Digimon as living beings. Therefore, a new group of digi knights, consisting of Davis Motomiya , Yolei Inoue and Cody Hida, is selected to fight him together with TK Takaishi and Kari Yagami from the previous generation of digi knights. The remaining former digi knights are largely in the background, but have numerous guest appearances.

After the digi knights were able to drive the emperor out of already conquered areas several times, he creates the artificial kimeramon made up of various digimon . This is clearly superior to the children, but the Digimon Emperor himself can no longer control it completely. Finally, with the help of a golden Digi-Armor egg, the digi knights manage to defeat Chimeramon and thus the emperor. But the actual Digimon is also killed and he becomes aware of his actions. He travels to the city of eternal beginnings and finds the rebirth of his Digimon there. He wants to make amends for his deeds and after a while joins the digi knights.

Soon, however, new opponents appear, Arukenimon and Mummymon . These use the black towers of the Digimon Emperor to create Digimon clones that they can control. However, they also create BlackWarGreymon , which has a will of its own. BlackWarGreymon hopes to find the meaning of its existence if it destroys the sacred stones that keep the worlds balanced. Shortly before it plunges the Digiwelt and the real world into ruin, the sacred animal Azulongmon appears and explains to BlackWarGreymon that it can only find the meaning of its life if it goes into itself. BlackWarGreymon then withdraws to ponder Azulongmon's words.

At Christmas 2002, Digimon and black towers, created by Arukenimon and Mummymon, suddenly appeared everywhere in the real world. The Japanese digi knights team up with the rest of the world, destroy the towers and send the Digimon back to the digiworld. Shortly thereafter, Deemon appears with his subjects LadyDevimon , SkullSatamon and MarineDevimon who want to have the seeds of darkness in Ken's throat. The fight against them represents a particularly high psychological burden for the new digi knights, since they too now have to kill real Digimon for the first time. Deemon is eventually banished to the world of darkness.

It turns out that Arukenimon and Mummymon were created by a human named Yukio Oikawa , who also manipulated Ken into becoming the Digimon emperor. He kidnaps Ken and transfers the seeds of darkness in him to several other children. Suddenly BlackWarGreymon returns and tries to stop him. It fails and is fatally injured. With the last of its strength, however, it seals access to the Digiwelt in Tokyo. Oikawa therefore ends up trying to get into the digiworld with the children who carry the seeds of darkness, together with them and the digi knights in an unknown parallel world.

It is revealed that all along he had been trying desperately to visit the Digiworld, using the ghost Myotismons , defeated by the previous generation of Digi Knights. This is reborn through the power of the seeds of darkness in the children used by Oikawa as MaloMyotismon , this destroys Arukenimon and Mummymon. Only when all digi knights around the world bundle the power of their dreams and hopes do they succeed in defeating MaloMyotismon. The dying Oikawa sees the real Digiworld and meets the Digimon partner originally intended for him. He realizes that through the ongoing grief and anger over the death of his only childhood friend, Cody's father Hiroki Hida , he has blocked every chance of his dreams being fulfilled. Finally he sacrifices himself to restore the Digiwelt destroyed by the fighting with his remaining strength.

In the epilogue it becomes clear that the narrator of the first two series is the adult TK, who as a writer will write a book about his childhood in 2027. In the future, humans and Digimon will live together peacefully. All Digiritter have fulfilled their dreams and are extremely successful in their professions. In the last scene you can see all the former digi knights and their children, who are now setting off on new adventures.

Characters

Davis Motomiya ( 本 宮 大 輔 , Motomiya Daisuke )

Eleven year old Davis is the leader of the new generation of digital knights. He admires his predecessor Tai and inherits his aviator goggles, which he wears with pride. His older seventeen year old sister Jun Motomiya is in love with TK's older brother Matt . He is brave and has a strong will, but often also cocky and belligerent. As the only digi knight, he doesn't have a big dream, but is almost perfectly happy. He has the Digi-Armor Eggs of Courage and Friendship, and temporarily the Golden Digi-Armor Egg of Miracle.

Yolei Inoue ( 井 ノ 上 京 , Inoue Miyako )

The twelve-year-old Yolei is the oldest of the group. She is the youngest of four children in her family. Her parents have a neighborhood shop called "Ai-Mart" where the Digiritter often buy food. In addition to her enthusiasm for technology, she has a particular skill for computers. She is curious, daring and spirited, but also impatient and emotional. Your partner, the Vogel-Digimon Hawkmon, is polite, easy-going and very talkative. She is the owner of the Digi Armor Eggs of Love and Sincerity.

Cody Hida ( 火 田 伊 織 , Hida Iori )

At nine years old, Cody is the youngest of the digi knights. After the death of his father Hiroki Hida , he lives with his mother Kotomi Hida and his grandfather, the kendo master Chikara Hida . With the latter, he often seeks advice in difficult situations. He is intelligent, polite, curious and often criticizes others as well as himself. He often talks to himself and looks for logical reasons for everything, but realizes that there are not always some. His partner, the mammalian Digimon Armadillomon , is naive and relaxed. He has the Digi Armor eggs of knowledge and reliability.

TK Takaishi ( 高 石 タ ケ ル , Takaishi Takeru )

TK was already one of those digi knights who had been in the digiworld three years earlier. He is now eleven years old and lives with his mother Natsuko Takaishi . Shortly before the start of the school year, they both move from Setagaya to Odaiba. He is level-headed, speaks very upscale and, in contrast to his friends, appears very experienced and wise. However, due to his previous experiences in the digiworld, he has a strong aversion to all evil, which occasionally manifests itself in outbursts of anger. His Digimon Patamon is quite childish, curious, but also compassionate. Both tend to hold back in fights. TK owns the Digi Armor Egg of Hope.

Kari Yagami ( 八神 ヒ カ リ , Yagami Hikari )

Like TK, Kari was one of those digi knights who had been in the digiworld three years earlier. The now eleven-year-old girl is good-natured, emotional and worries about the others, but also quickly loses courage in hopeless situations. Your Digimon, the holy animal digimon Gatomon is very moody, cunning, but also self-confident and determined. Kari wears the Digi Armor Egg of Light.

Ken Ichijōji ( 一 乗 寺 賢 , Ichijōji Ken )

In the first half of the season, eleven-year-old Ken still fights against the children as Digimon emperor. But after he realizes that Digimon are living beings and can suffer, he is purified and wants to settle his debt. He is intelligent, kind, and calm. At first he is a loner, but later he joins the digi knights. His partner, the larva- like wormmon, is sensitive and loves Ken more than anything. Ken is the bearer of the coat of arms of kindness, which was once shrouded in darkness and was temporarily transformed by the four sacred animals into the golden Digi-Armor egg of miracle. He doesn't own a Digi-Armor egg in the series.

DVD release

After the first Digimon season, KSM-Anime has also released the second season on a DVD box since November 2016, divided into three volumes. Box one (released November 7, 2016) contains the first 17 episodes. The last two volumes followed in January and March 2017. The DVDs are equipped with reversible covers, but only offer German synchronization. The publisher lists various anime trailers and a picture gallery as “extras” .

Changes in international broadcasts

The series has been adapted in different parts of Asia , America , Oceania and Europe to different degrees to the different television landscapes and censorship standards.

In the US version, many of the Japanese names were Anglicized or abbreviated to Western nicknames by the former dubbing studio Saban Entertainment. Scenes that contained violence, were too adapted to Japanese conditions, or appeared to be insignificant, were cut and dialogues and names were changed. Furthermore, the original background music was removed and replaced with original compositions.

When implementing the German-language version, the original Japanese model was used. Neither dialogues nor scenes were edited here. However, the Anglicised names had to be adopted for marketing reasons, which were specified by the Munich licensor CTM Concept-TV & Merchandising.

synchronization

The German version of the television series was provided with German-language dialogues by the Berlin studios of MME Studios GmbH on behalf of RTL II .

Adaptations

Movies

Tōei Animation produced two feature films for the series. Both stories take place in the same universe of the first two Digimon series.

Digimon Hurricane Jōriku !! & Chōzetsu Shinka !! Ōgon no digimental

This two-part film has a total length of approximately 65 minutes and was released on July 8, 2000 in Japan.
Due to some events and facts that contradict those from the television series, this film is not considered canonical .

Diablomon no Gyakushu

This film was shown in Japanese cinemas from March 3, 2001 and is 30 minutes long. The plot revolves around the fight against Diaboromon, which was already featured in the movie Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game! occurred. In addition to the main characters from Digimon 02 , Tai and Matt from the first series also play an important role.

Radio plays

In Japan, four radio plays on the series were published on CD, some of which are regarded as canons. These are titled Michi e no Armor Shinka , Ishida Yamato Tegami ~ Letter ~ , Natsu e no Tobira and Digimon Adventure 02 Original Story 2003nen -Haru- .

Michi e no Armor Shinka

This radio play (code: NECA-30031) is set on Valentine's Day 2003. It begins with Daisuke, who tries to change his image by imitating various chosen children in order to find favor with the girls. Hikari, Sora and Mimi are kidnapped by the cybernetic mega-level Digimon Boltmon, who simply wants a "heart". The mutant-like Pukumon, also a mega-level Digimon, exploits this to put his plan to destroy the Digiritter into action. Puttimon (Wormmon's official armor level) can talk Boltmon well. Then the chosen children face Pukumon, the leading head, to fight. Jō collides with the group. The Digi-Terminals are confused, which has the consequence that the Digiritter use the wrong Digiarmoreier and their Digimon partners develop into new Armor-Level-Digimon. In the end they succeed in defeating Pukumon.

The story consists of the five parts Daisuke no Valentine Daisakusen , Heart Gōtō , Kodomotachi ni Dekiru Koto , Daisuke, Ankoku Shinka! , Dotō no Armor Shinka .

Ishida Yamato Tegami ~ Letter ~

In this radio play (code: NECA-30032), Yamato initially receives a spoken letter on a tape from a girl. She has an eye disease and doubts whether she should undergo an operation. If the surgery is unsuccessful, she could be blind forever afterwards. With the song Tobira DOOR composed for her , Yamato gives her courage and so she decides to be brave and to be treated.

The story consists of the nine parts 1tsuume no Tegami , Umi , Surfer , Kanojo , Kakigooriya no Oyaji , Kanojo 2 , Onkyou Sakurada , Kisensha T-34 and 2tsuume no Tegami .

Natsu e no Tobira

This radio play (code: NECA-30045) is set in the summer of 2003. Daisuke and Chibimon (DemiVeemon) meet with Mimi, Wallace (Willis) and Gumimon in New York. But suddenly it becomes unusually wintry and the city seems deserted. The children hear a voice and see fireflies before they meet a nameless girl. Daisuke gives her the name "Nat-chan". Nat-chan develops feelings for Daisuke. Little does the group suspect that they are actually a huge Digimon armed with claws. She accomplishes her transformation with the help of the fireflies. These fireflies turn out to be circuits that have "defaced" their data. Daisuke realizes that Nat-chan was lonely and only wanted a chosen child as a partner. Nat-chan dies and returns as DigiEi. Daisuke and the others take it upon themselves to find Nat-chan's true partner.

Wallace and Mimi indicate that the sudden onset of winter was caused by Daisuke's heart, because it was unhappy, on the one hand, by being eliminated from a district soccer tournament and, on the other, by the unrequited love for Hikari.

The story consists of the five parts Ichinenburi no Saikai , Shōjo to no Deai , Yuki no New York , Data Chip and Natsu e no Tobira .

This radio play is nowhere to be assigned in the continuity of the television series, because it is one year after Digimon Adventure 02 - Zenpen: Digimon Hurricane Jūriku - Kōhen: Chōsetsu Shinka !! Ōgon no Digimental takes place.

Digimon Adventure 02 Original Story 2003nen -Har-

This radio play (code: NECA-30082) contains several short stories with individual characters that show their further development after the plot of the series.
In Goggle, Daisuke thinks about the aviator goggles Taichi gave him back then, what they represent and what makes a good leader.
In Keyboard o Uchi Nagara , Takeru started to write down his adventures in the digital world. In some stories he not only reveals his feelings, but also expresses his experiences as a digi knight. It is later said that the publication of Takeru's memorandum was delayed until he was able to write factually.
In Ohakamairi , Iori and Armadimon visit the grave of his late father Hiroki Hida . They talk about the sacrifices that Yukio Oikawa and the others made. Iori promises to find out why evil forces try to influence people for their own ends.
In Chūgakusei ni Narimashita , Miyako talks about major changes in her life and transition from elementary school to middle school, her attempts to start a music group , her growing feelings for Ken, and her new passion for black tea.
In Haru no Hizashi, Ken reminisces about his late older brother Osamu Ichijōji , the mistakes from his past and how happy and grateful he is now.
In Hikari no Partner Nyuumon Kouza , Hikari has started to record a video for a class that teaches new chosen children how to act and behave correctly as good partners towards their Digimon. She also talks about her experiences with Tailmon and the Digiwelt. Shortly before the end of this story, it is explained that Daisuke's big sister Jun Motomiya , along with Miyako's two older sisters Momoe and Chizuru Inoue , and Jo's older brother Shū Kido have now been chosen to be digi knights and that they need support in the digital world. Hikari and the others then set off to support the newcomers in their adventures. It later turns out that Hikari's record, amazingly, comes in handy.

Soundtracks

The two soundtrack CDs Digimon Adventure 02 Uta to Ongaku Shū Ver.1 (Code: NECA-30024) and Digimon Adventure 02 Uta to Ongaku Shū Ver were released under the King Records label in Japan on July 5, 2000 and January 24, 2001 .2 (Code: NECA-30030), which contain the background music from the anime. In addition, there are also character songs sung by the seiyū, which are sold as single CDs and albums in addition to the opening and closing credits for the television series. This CD releases produced by the former NEC - subsidiary NEC Inter Channel .

A soundtrack CD Digimon - TV Soundtrack Vol. 2 was released in German-speaking countries . This album, which was released on April 27, 2001, also includes some specially produced songs and was licensed by CTM Concept-TV & Merchandising and distributed by BMG Ariola , now Sony BMG . The production studio is TOYCO Studios , the pieces included were produced by Andy Knote .

Manhua

Yuen Wong Yu drew a Manhua adaptation for the television series. The series comprises two volumes. The stories are shortened compared to the anime, although events turn out differently in rare cases.

The Hong Kong publisher Rightman Publishing published both anthologies individually on December 31, 2001 and February 26, 2002 in Cantonese in traditional Chinese characters.

The first English-language version was published by Chuang Yi Publishing , which is based in Singapore , for the Southeast Asian region.

Between December 2003 and February 2004, the US publisher Tokyopop brought out their English version, translated by Lianne Sentar, under the title Digimon Zero Two on the North American market.
