Digimon Frontier ( Jap.デジモンフロンティア, Dejimon Furontia ) from the year 2002, the fourth is Anime - TV series of Digimon - franchises . The Digiwelt in Digimon Frontier is divided into ten regions, each of which represents one of the ten elements (fire, light, ice, wind, thunder, earth, wood, water, steel and darkness). They are connected by a rail network spanning the entire planet, through which the accessible Digimon, called Trailmon , transport passengers from one place to the next. The regions themselves as well as all animate and inanimate objects in them consist of so-called "D-Codes" (デ ジ コ ー ドDejikōdo , "Digicodes" ). They are responsible for the design of the Digiwelt and are usually not openly accessible. Once the D-codes, e.g. If, for example, they are revealed by destroying an object or injuring a living being, they can be absorbed by other living beings. Seraphimon and Orphanimon together represent the humanoid Digimon, while Cherubimon stands for the animal Digimon.
Digimon and technology
The technology of Digimon is essentially based on that of the previous series and expands it.
The Digivice owned by the main characters in this series is called "D-Tektor" (Japanese for "D-Scanner") and can serve as a handheld radio and radar. It can also be used to scan D-Codes and restore the information they contain.
The Digimon in the world of Digimon Frontier can digitize like those of the previous season in order to reach a new level and gain power, but the classic digitation plays a rather subordinate role and is not explained in detail in the series. The transformation of the main human characters into so-called hybrid digimon is more decisive. This is possible with the help of artifacts called spirits , which are the legacy of a group of ten legendary Urdigimon. There are a total of twenty spirits - two for each of the ten elements, each consisting of an H-Spirit (ヒ ュ ー マ ン ス ピ リ ッ トHyūman Supiritto , "Human Spirit" ) and a B-Spirit (ビ ー ス ト ス ピ リ ッ トBīsuto Supiritto , "Beast Spirit" ). In contrast to the ordinary Digimon, the hybrid-level Digimon can change their type to adapt to their opponent, which is also the reason that they are assigned to the variable type . Only Susanoomon does not belong to the hybrid Digimon, but is classified as a mega-level Digimon and belongs to the serum type .

H or L spirit digitation

B or K Spirit Digitation

The animal and humanoid Digimon once lived peacefully side by side in the Digiwelt. But then there were violent clashes between the two sides, which almost led to the destruction of the Digiwelt. Then Lucemon appeared and managed to bring both sides to peace. However, she became more and more power-hungry, cruel and tyrannical in her rule, so that the animal and humanoid Digimon joined together and sent ten legendary Digi-Warriors (伝 説 の 十 闘 士Densetsu no Jūtōshi ), who represented the ten regions of the Digiworld, to Lucemon to fall. The tyrant was defeated by the Urdigimon and locked in a prison inside the Digiworld. The Digi-Warriors lost their lives. But before they died, they created the spirits from their own data. They released them and entrusted them to the three great angel digimon, who were supposed to ensure lasting peace and justice. Cherubimon got the spirit pairs of earth, wood, water, steel and darkness. Seraphimon received those of wind and light. And finally Orphanimon got the spirits of fire, ice, and thunder.
Unfortunately, the peace was short-lived, because Cherubimon became more and more angry with the other two angels, because she was of the opinion that the animal Digimon would be disadvantaged. One day it became possessed by the dark forces of Lucemon and began to destroy the Digiworld and fight Seraphimon and Orphanimon. After Seraphimon was paralyzed in his castle and Orphanimon was dragged into the castle by Cherubimon, she decided to call human children into the Digiworld, who, according to an ancient prophecy, should awaken the spirits of the legendary Digi-warriors.

One morning Takuya Kanbara receives a text message on his mobile phone asking if he would like to play a game that could determine his fate. Curious, he decides to play along and is sent to the Shibuya train station , a district of Tokyo , where he unsuspectingly gets on a mysterious train, a Trailmon, into the Digiwelt. In it he meets Zoe Ayamoto, JP Shibayama and Tommy Hyomi, who were all invited to a game about their fate via SMS. As they introduce themselves, their cell phones are turning into D-Tectors . Arrived in the Digiwelt they meet Bokomon and Neemon , who are attacked by a malicious Digimon. Takuya finds an H-Spirit, digests and fends off the attack. A voice in his D-tector then tells him that he is one of the ten legendary warriors and should go to the forest station. From that moment on, the group is accompanied by Bokomon and Neemon.
Kōji Minamoto also joins the group briefly. He and the other children also find H-Spirits. The group's first real opponents are four remaining warriors, Grumblemon, Arbormon, Lanamon and Mercurymon, who work for the evil Cherubimon and try to defeat Takuya and his friends. When the children arrive at the forest station after several unsuccessful fights, they discover the castle of the Digimon angel Seraphimon and manage to awaken him from his rigidity with the help of the Digimon Sorcerymon . However, the enemy warriors reappear and use a trick to kill Seraphimon, who becomes a Digiei again. Takuya and his friends are forced to retreat quickly.
While they make their way to the star of roses, under which the castle of Cherubimon is located, the children manage to defeat four of the five opposing warriors and take their spirits. Their B-Spirits, which they find one after the other along the way, also help them. However, the remaining enemy warrior named Duskmon turns out to be Kōji's missing twin brother Kōichi, who is manipulated by Cherubimon. After Kōji performs the Double Spirit Digitation, he can finally defeat him and convert him for good. He then later receives the true spirits of darkness and can actively take part in battles.
After the group has reached Cherubimon's castle, the children free the captured orphanimon and it becomes clear that she was behind the voice in the D-Tectors and had also brought the children into the Digiwelt. However, Orphanimon dies in the ensuing fight against Cherubimon to protect the children. Takuya and Kōji manage to perform the Hyper Spirit Digitation with the help of their friends and finally defeat Cherubimon.
Now the two royal knights Dynasmon and Crusadermon appear, who want to gradually destroy the entire Digiwelt in order to free Lucemon from their prison. All attempts of the children to stop the royal knights fail, so that in the end only the moons of the Digiworld remain and Lucemon is freed. Since the royal knights now experience the cruelty of their master, they begin to doubt her and the children ultimately manage to defeat both of them.
Lucemon appears, kills her former henchmen, scans their D-codes and digests into her ultra-level variant Lucemon falldown mode . The demon lord finally also destroys the moons of the digiworld and then tries to penetrate the human world. The children gather their strength and, after Kōichi sacrifices himself, manage to digitize into Susanoomon and beat Lucemon. Their dark side survives and wants to continue to enter the human world as Lucemon Satan Mode . Susanoomon can prevent this and destroys it together with Lucemon Larva , Lucemon's true megalevel, which is Lucemon's actual brain. The Digiwelt will then be restored to its original state. But the children have to return to the human world, since the passage between the worlds opened by Lucemon closes again.
In the epilogue, the children learn that Kōichi is dying in the hospital in the real world. But when Kōji comes to him, he wakes up again. You can see how the children's D-Tectors transform themselves back into cell phones, as their energy is used up with the rescue of Kōichi. In the last scene, the children reflect one last time about the positive changes they have experienced through their adventures in the Digiwelt.

Takuya Kanbara ( 神 原 拓 也 Kanbara Takuya )
- Ten year old Takuya is the leader of the children. He is energetic, cheerful, courageous, determined, has a strong sense of justice, but is also naive, foolhardy and prone to cockiness. He is the son of Hiroaki and Yuriko Kanbara and has a little nine-year-old brother Shinya Kanbara , with whom he sometimes argues. He is the heir to AncientGreymon's Spirits of Fire .
Kōji Minamoto ( 源 輝 二 Minamoto Kōji )
- Kōji is eleven years old, reserved and at first quite lonely. His taciturnity is mainly due to family problems. His parents divorced shortly after his birth and since then he has lived with his father Kōsei Minamoto and his future wife Satomi Minamoto in the belief that his birth mother had died. Zoe Ayamoto ( 織 本 泉 Orimoto Izumi )
- Ten year old Zoe is the only female member of the group. She is strong-willed, happy, empathetic, open-hearted, and very temperamental, but tends to judge people by first impression and becomes easily hysterical. She purposefully goes her own way, but evades serious meetings or final decisions. She lived in Italy with her parents for two years. When she returned to her native Japan, she had great problems reintegrating into school. She is the heir to AncientKazemons Spirits of the Wind .
Tommy Hyomi ( 氷 見 友 樹 Himi Tomoki )
- Nine year old Tommy is the youngest member of the group. He is childish, playful, easily intimidated, scared, but also often naive. He originally came into the Digiwelt against his will when he was pushed into one of the Trailmon trains by his classmates Katsuharu and Teppei . In his family he was always spoiled by his mother, but because of that he had a rather bad relationship with his older eighteen-year-old brother. He later realizes that his brother was not jealous of him as he had believed, but tried to prepare him for life. He feels comfortable in Takuya's presence and sees him as a big brother. He is the heir to AncientMegatheriumon's Spirits of Ice .
JP Shibayama ( 柴山 純平 Shibayama Junpei )
- At twelve years old, JP is the oldest member of the group. He is quite plump and has a broad build, is level-headed, watchful, often thoughtful, but also often happy. He works as a hobby magician and has a preference for sweets, especially chocolate. Before his trip to the DigiWorld, he often tried to make friends. He's been in love with Zoe since they first met. He is a passionate collector of model trains, stamps and cards. He owns AncientBeetlemons Spirits of Thunder .
Kōichi Kimura ( 木村 輝 一 Kimura Kōichi )
- The eleven-year-old Kōichi is Kōji's missing twin brother, who grew up with his mother Tomoko Kimura after their parents separated , without knowing of Kōji's existence. Because of his mother's disappointment and grief, he too became rather depressed and gloomy. Before his trip to the Digiwelt, he learned of the existence of his twin brother from his dying grandmother. At first he was jealous of Kōji, as he could grow up in an (apparently) intact family. He is the heir to AncientSphinxmons Spirits of Darkness.

The five warriors correspond to the groups of five often used in mangas and anime, who fight for justice, also called Sentai . The German publisher KSM Anime released Digimon Frontier on DVD box after the first three seasons . Vol. 1 with the first 17 episodes was released on February 23, 2018 in a limited slipcase. In addition to trailers and a picture gallery, there is also a postcard as an extra. The second box was released on April 19 and contains episodes 18 to 34. Box 3 was released on June 19, 2018 and concludes the collection box with episodes 35 to 50.
Changes in international broadcasts

In the US version, the Disney subsidiary Sensation Animation , in which all of Saban Entertainment's former employees and voice actors were involved in the production, Anglicized many of the Japanese names, removed scenes that either contained violence or appeared to be insignificant / or modified technically and dramaturgically, dialogues and descriptions partly changed or played down. Furthermore, the original background music was completely removed and replaced with original compositions.
The implementation of the German version was largely based on the original Japanese template. According to the Munich licensee CTM Concept-TV & Merchandising GmbH , the Anglicised names were also used here for marketing reasons. In contrast to the Japanese original version, Cherubimon and Lucemon are referred to / portrayed as female in the German version, despite their male figures.

The music for the television series was composed by Takanori Arisawa .
For the opening credits of the series, a 93-second version of the opening credits "FIRE !!" was produced that was interpreted by Kōji Wada . The composition and arrangement came from Michihiko Arrangta . Hiroshi Yamada wrote the lyrics to the song .
Two 95 to 100-second versions of the songs were also produced for the credits . These are "Innocent ~ Mujaki na Mama de ~" and "an Endless tale" . Innocent ~ Mujaki na Mama de ~ was sung by Kōji Wada. The composition is by Hidenori Chiwata. Cher Watanabe was in charge of the arrangement. Yū Matsuki wrote the text. An Endless tale was sung by Kōji Wada and Ai Maeda alias AiM. The accompanying music and the arrangement came from Michihiko Ōta. Hiroshi Yamada wrote the lyrics to the song.

Movie
Toei Animation produced the 40-minute film Digimon Frontier: Kodai Digimon Fukkatsu !! which was released in Japanese theaters on July 20, 2002.
In this film, the five children reach a small island on their journey through the Digiwelt. There are two types of Digimon living there and they are constantly at war: animal and human. This is promoted by Murmuxmon, who wants to free an ancient evil Digimon, Ornismon. The friends witness how two Digimon of different kinds make friends and then try to end the war.
Due to some events and facts that contradict those from the television series, this film is not considered canonical .

In Japan, a radio play on the series was published on CD with the title Digimon Frontier Original Story Tsutaetaikoto (code: NECA-30084). This takes place in the second half of the series and is about the children who find a mailbox- like device in the Digiwelt and decide to write letters to people who are very close to them. In these letters things are expressed that they usually do not talk about.
