Dikmen is a city and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the Turkish province of Sinop . The place is about 45 kilometers south of the provincial capital Sinop .

The district is located in the east of the province on the Black Sea . It borders on Samsun Province to the east, Durağan County to the south , Boyabat County on a short stretch to the west, and Gerze County to the north-west . In the north, the Black Sea forms the natural border.

Along the sea, the D010 trunk road crosses the district, which follows the course of the Black Sea coast from Karasu in the west to the Georgian border in the east. A country road connects the district town with Durağan in the south. The Kanlıçay flows from southeast to north through the city and the district and flows into the sea near the village of Kerim. A little south of the district town, the Serbest Çayı flows towards it from the southwest . The district is located on the northern slope of the Küre Dağları Mountains . In the southeast is the 1377 meter high Kıran Tepesi .

The district was formed in 1990 from the southern part of the Gerze district. Until then, it was a separate Bucak in this district and at the last census before the change of area (1985) it had 15,781 inhabitants, which was around 32.8% of the district's population at that time. At the end of 2018, the district of Dikmen consisted of the district town and 28 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 149 residents. The population density (13.4 inh. Per km²) of the district was the lowest of all new districts in the province.
