Dinmukhamed Kanatuly Kudaibergen (( Kazakh : Дінмұхаммед Қанатұлы Құдайберген), born on 24. May 1994 in Aktobe , Kazakhstan ), known as Dimash Kudaibergen ( Димаш Құдайберген ) is a Kazakh singer , songwriter and multi-instrumentalist .

He gained fame when he won the Grand Prix of the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk , Belarus in 2015 , as well as through his “wildcard” participation in the Chinese TV show “The Singer” on the TV channel Hunan Television 2017. Since then This was followed by numerous international appearances, such as at the 71st International Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and in November 2018 in London as part of the “Kazakh Culture Days”. He achieved fame in the USA in 2019 with his appearance on the US show The World's Best on the TV channel CBS .

He has a classical and contemporary vocal training, and is known for his extraordinary vocal range of six octaves (or six octaves and five semitones including chest voice with straw bass). His vocal range extends from the deep tones of the bass far beyond the highest of the soprano , from A '(short: A1; chest part with straw bass ), through D (short: D2; chest part) and f' '' (short: F6; head part ) to d '' '' '(short: D8; whistle register )

Life

Kudaibergen was born into a musical family in which the Kazakh language and traditional music and musical instruments, such as the dombra , played an important role. His enthusiasm and fascination for music was already evident in childhood and he dreamed of performing on the big stages.

His parents Kanat Kudaibergenuly Aitbayev ( Қанат Құдайбергенұлы Айтбаев ) and Svetlana Aitbayeva ( Светлана Айтбаева ) are well-known singers in Kazakhstan. Both parents of Kudaibergen have been recognized by the Kazakh government as "Honored Music Artists". His father, Kanat Aitbayev, headed the Aktobe Regional Cultural Development Committee. His mother, Svetlana Aitbayeva, is a soprano with the Aktobe Philharmonic Society, a member of the Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Development and the artistic director of the Saz children's studio in the Aktobe region.

His grandparents lived in the house with him and his parents. His grandmother is a retired geography and biology teacher and also sang when she was younger, and his grandfather is a dombra player. Kudaibergen has a younger sister and a younger brother.

education

He began taking piano and singing lessons at Aktobe's Akhmet Zhubanov Music College from the age of five and won the Aynalayin National Piano Competition at the age of six. Since his time in the children's choir, he has sung both male and female voices. Kudaibergen performed at a young age, sang and played at various events and competitions during his childhood.

In 2009 he completed a master class in Broadway musicals.

In 2014 he graduated from the Zhubanov Music College in Aqtöbe with a degree in “Academic Singing” and began studying contemporary music (jazz and pop) at the Kazakh National University of Arts in Astana. Currently (2019) he is studying composition there in his master’s degree .

Kudaibergen sings in different languages, e.g. B. in his mother tongue Kazakh, but also in Russian, Mandarin, English, French, Ukrainian, Italian and Kyrgyz. Of these languages, however, he only speaks Kazakh and Russian, and began to learn English and Mandarin for the "I Am Singer" competition in China. In the other languages ​​he sings in, he just mimics the pronunciation.

In addition to singing, Kudaibergen also plays several instruments, including piano, dombra, guitar and drums.

Careers and Competitions

After his childhood and adolescence performances, Kudaibergen took part in several singing competitions from 2010 onwards. In 2012 Dimash won the Grand Prix at the national Young Performers Contest “Zhas Kanat” and first prize at the international TV competition Oriental Bazaar in Ukraine. In 2013 he won the first international festival "Makin Asia" in Kyrgyzstan.

He won major competitions in Kazakhstan (Sonorous Voices of Baikonur, 2010, and Zhas Kanat, 2012), Ukraine (Oriental Bazaar, 2012) and Kyrgyzstan (Makin Asia, 2013).

In 2013 he appeared as a guest singer at the Türkçevizyon Gala Night in Denizli, Turkey. During this time he published his first own music ("Körkemim" (Kazakh: Көркемім) and "Unforgettable Day") as well as music videos for "Körkemim" (2013) and "Daididau" (Kazakh: Дайдидау, 2014).

It gained significant popularity in Kazakhstan and the post-Soviet states in 2015 when it was invited to the annual international art festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk , Belarus . He won the Grand Prix there on July 13, 2015 with 175 out of 180 points.

In the following period in 2015 he appeared regularly on local Kazakh television programs and at public international events; including at Makin Asia , at Expo 2015 in Milan, and at the Eurasia International Film Festival in Almaty , Kazakhstan. During a state visit to Kazakhstan, he sang for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Astana Opera.

At the international ABU TV Song Festival 2015 in Istanbul, he represented Kazakhstan when the country took part for the first time with the Kazakh song Daididau .

On December 28, 2015, he was voted “Singer of the Year” at the Kazakh “Person of the Year” Awards.

His first EP was released on January 1st, 2016, named after himself, Dimash Kudaibergen . In April 2016, Kudaibergen started his first headliner tour, where he gave 25 concerts in 25 different regions in Kazakhstan and two concerts in Russia. The tour was titled Unforgettable Day , after his song of the same name. In July he was invited to appear at the closing event of the Slavianski Bazaar and was on the jury for Bala Dauysy (Voice of Children 2016). On the occasion of the thousandth birthday of the city of Almaty, he performed at the gala concert with Yerbolat and Alashuli with the rap song I'm a Kazakh in September 2016 . In the same month a performance in the Great Kremlin Palace in Moscow followed as part of the Astana - Heart of Eurasia concert .

In 2017 he took part in the “I am a singer” competition of the Chinese TV station Hunan Television and came second. At 22, he was the youngest participant in the show's history and had to compete against professional and well-known Chinese singers. His first stage appearance, when he sang “SOS d'un terrien en détresse” from the rock opera Starmania , made him a star in China. All of his appearances on "I am a singer" took top positions in the Fresh Asia music charts.

In March 2017 in Shanghai, Kudaibergen won the “Best Asian Singer” award at China's 24th Top Music Awards , which roughly corresponds to a Grammy award. With Eternal Memory he released his first Chinese-language single.

This was followed by appearances at the Eurasia Film Festival 2017 and awards as "Most Popular Male Singer" at the Chinese Golden Melody Festival in Hong Kong, as "Astana Voice" at the International Music Festival there and as "Best Overseas Male Star" at the New Asia Song Festival in Beijing. He won two awards for “Favorite Overseas Singer” at the Tencent MTV Asia Music Gala in China in 2017 .

His first solo concert entitled Bastau (Beginning) took place on June 27, 2017 as part of the Expo 2017 in Astana . When he headlined the Open Air Gakku Festival in Almaty in September 2017 , he hit his highest note so far, the D8 in Unforgettable Day .

Further awards followed in 2018, such as at the Weibo Awards as "New Music Power of the Year", at the Global Chinese Golden Chart Awards as "Best Artist of the Year" and at the Top Global Chinese Music Awards as "Most Popular Singer of the Year ". He was also listed as one of the "30 under 30" Most Influential People by Forbes Kazakhstan.

He made several appearances in Kazakhstan and Russia as well as with his D-Dynasty World Live Tour in China. He was also a member of the jury at the Slavianski Bazaar 2018. In Europe, Kudaibergen gave concerts at the 71st International Cannes Film Festival 2018 and in the O2-Arena in London as part of the “Kazakh Culture Days”. Also in 2018 he released his first English-language single called Screaming .

He became known to a wider global audience in 2019 with an appearance on the US show The World's Best .

Influences and style

Kudaibergen decided to pursue a career in contemporary music instead of the position offered to him at the opera of Nur-Sultan (Astana until 2019) . He wants to bring together classical elements, traditional Kazakh music and pop music. He himself names Michael Jackson , Ermek Serkebaev , Celine Dion , Lara Fabian and Luciano Pavarotti as musical influences .

Trivia

Dimash Kudaibergen calls his fans "Dears" ("his loved ones"), which he justifies with the following that they support him so much and are as dear to him as his family.

Several documentaries have already been filmed about Kudaibergen. "Dimash Kudaibergen" and "Flawless Diamond" were released in 2017 by the Kazakh television station Khabar TV . During Kudaibergen's participation in I am a Singer 2017, Hunan TV broadcast the documentary "The Singer".

He was also a model for various fashion labels as well as lifestyle and fashion magazines.
