Dimitar Dimitrov ( Bulgarian Димитър Димитров ; born June 9, 1959 in Burgas ) is a former Bulgarian football player and current coach .
As a young player at FC Chernomorets Burgas , Dimitrov won the Bulgarian U-20 championship three times. He was a student at the National Sports Academy . Before his 25th birthday, he had to give up his football career due to an injury to his knee.
His career as a football coach began at Neftochimik Burgas . In the meantime he graduated from the trainer school in Cologne . After working as an assistant coach at Neftochimik under Ivan Wutow , he was appointed coach of the Burgas club in 1993. In 1997 Dimitrov moved to FK Litex Lovech and won the Bulgarian football championship in 1998.
On September 13, 1998 he was introduced as the coach of the Bulgarian national football team. He stayed at the post until the end of 1999. After that he led the teams of Levski Sofia , FK Litex Lovech , Lokomotive Plovdiv , PFC Naftex Burgas and Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia . In 2005 he made his comeback in Bulgaria. On December 20, 2005, he took over the management of the Bulgarian national team alongside Christo Stoitschkow . He held the position of sports manager. In April 2007 he gave up the post together with Stoichkov. He then became the coach of Chernomorets Burgas FC , with whom he won first place in the Eastern B Grupa in the 2006/07 season. In the 2007/08 and 08/09 seasons he led his team in the A Grupa , the highest Bulgarian league.
At the end of 2008 Dimitrov moved to the Russian first division club Amkar Perm . He was succeeded in Burgas by Krassimir Balakow .
At the end of 2009 he was coach of the Saudi club al-Qadisiya al-Chubar and since June 2011 he has been coaching his home club FC Chernomorets Burgas again .
On October 13, 2011, Dimitrov announced at a press conference that he had stomach cancer .
In June 2015 he was signed by the Kazakh first division club Irtysh Pavlodar .
