Dirk Meinzer
Dirk Meinzer (* 1972 in Karlsruhe ) is a German artist.
life and work
After a study of business administration from 1995 to 1996 at the HTW Berlin and philosophy from 1996 to 1997 at the Humboldt University in Berlin , he began studying art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg in 1997. He studied with Claus Böhmler and graduated in 2004. He then went to Tanzania for seven months , where he built his own hut out of wickerwork coconut leaves in the Rufiji estuary and kept an eye out for dugongs . The confrontation with the foreign influenced his work considerably.
In 2014, Dirk Meinzer began to unite his heterogeneous work, which until then had been subordinated to various families, in his last group of works, the Nocturne. Paintings luminescent at night, on which bee wings like flower blossoms unfold their luminosity. Phosphorescent stone powders are used, which show a bland color during the day, while in the dark they give off their energy in the form of radiation, an afterglow, in all primary colors.
Dirk Meinzer is a post-conceptual artist and his work consists of paintings , drawings , objects , performances , installations , books and assemblages with organic material such as parts of animals, food or feces.
From 2010 to 2011 he had a professorial teaching position at the HFBK Hamburg.
Since 2018 he has been a lecturer for drawing at the HAW Hamburg.
From 2019 to 2020 he had a professorial teaching position at the HfK Bremen.
He lives and works in Hamburg and Deinste, Lower Saxony.
