Distemper is a Russian ska punk - band from Moscow .

Band history

Distemper was founded on September 4th, 1989 in Moscow by Nossaty, Bai and Kisel, who previously played together in the band Krisisnoje Otdelenie (Krisenrevier), and initially performed at local festivals and concerts. Stylistically, the music moved between thrash metal and punk . Two years after it was founded, the young band recorded their first album , which, however, had little success. In 1992 Distemper was strengthened by Dazent, who took over the singer role and since then has written most of the lyrics. With a new line-up, the group recorded the second album, with which they also became known outside of the capital, through performances in Saint Petersburg , Volgograd , Kirov and other cities in Russia.

In 1995 the band turned to ska punk . For this reason the saxophonist Ilyich was accepted. Three extremely successful albums were recorded by 1998, including Face Control (1997). Although the band was already well known by then, the ska-punk ensemble was not completed until 1998 with trombone and trumpet .

In 2002 Distemper went on tour abroad for the first time. Since then, the band has made guest appearances in Europe almost every summer and has now become the most successful Russian band in Europe abroad. Distemper appeared at major festivals such as the 15th Potsdamer Ska Fest and Force Attack.

Distemper works a lot with other bands. In 2003 a joint album was recorded with the American band The Know How . In 2006 the album Kogda rebjata objediniajutsia was released , which was recorded together with the Russian punk rock band Tarakany .

Distemper's lyrics are mostly very optimistic, positive and joyful. The range of topics that the band's lyrics deal with is wide, ranging from leisure activities including music and chilling, friendship and love to socially critical lyrics about violence , war and racism .

The two albums Нам по ...! and Подумай, кто твои друзья are distributed under free licenses . For Нам по ...! The Creative Commons - by-nc-sa license applies and Подумай, кто твои друзья the Free Art license .

Special performance

In the meantime, thanks to their unusual live performance, they have become well known outside of Russia's borders. The "crazy dog" is particularly noticeable in terms of behavior, not only raging across the stage, but also using the entire event room for his jokes and shows. The dog's head is a large fabric mask based on the band logo. The crazy dog is also featured on almost all record covers , and it is no coincidence that one of the most common dog diseases, distemper , is called canine distemper in Latin .

In addition to countless concerts in Russia, they also performed some tours through Western Europe. They have released 15 albums to date.
