The district of Aco is located in the province of Corongo in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on May 9, 1923. It has an area of ​​57.5 km². The 2017 census counted 404 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 736, in 2007 it was 543. The district administration is located in the 3150  m high village of Aco with 220 inhabitants (as of 2017). Aco is 5.7 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Corongo . In addition to the main town, there is also the town (caserío) San Isidro in the district.

Geographical location

The district of Aco is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central north of the province of Corongo. The Río Manta, right tributary of the Río Santa , flows along the eastern and southern district boundaries to the southwest and drains the area.

The district of Aco borders in the west on the district Corongo , in the north on the district Cabana , in the east on the district Cusca and in the extreme south on the district Yánac .
