The La Pampa district is located in the Corongo Province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was founded on November 21, 1898. It has an area of ​​94.5 km². The 2017 census counted 1081 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1445, in 2007 it was 1164. The district administration is located in the 1788  m high village of La Pampa with 820 inhabitants (as of 2017). La Pampa is 10 km south of the provincial capital Corongo .

Geographical location

The La Pampa district is located on the western flank of the Western Peruvian Cordillera in the south of the Corongo province. The Río Manta, right tributary of the Río Santa , flows along the northwestern district boundary to the southwest and drains the area.

The La Pampa district borders in the far west on the Macate district ( Santa Province ), in the northwest on the Yupán district , in the north on the Corongo and Yánac districts , in the northeast on the Cusca district , in the southeast on the Yuracmarca district and in the southwest the district of Huallanca (the latter two districts belong to the province of Huaylas ).
