The Corongo district is located in the Corongo Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 152 km². The 2017 census counted 1774 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2515, in 2007 it was 1824. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Corongo, at an altitude of 3141 m , with 1337 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Corongo district is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central northwest of the Corongo Province. The Río Manta, right tributary of the Río Santa , flows along the southeastern district boundary to the southwest and drains the area.
The district of Corongo borders in the southwest on the district Yupán , in the west on the district Bambas , in the northwest on the districts Llapo and Tauca (both in the province Pallasca ), in the extreme north on the district Cabana (also in the province Pallasca), in East to the Aco district and to the southeast to the Yánac and La Pampa districts .
