The district of Cusca is located in the province of Corongo in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on May 9, 1923. It has an area of ​​426 km². The 2017 census counted 2828 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2513, in 2007 it was 2792. The district administration is located in the 3242  m high town of Cusca with 388 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cusca is 7 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Corongo .

Geographical location

The district of Cusca is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the Corongo province. The Río Manta, the right tributary of the Río Santa , flows south along the southwestern district boundary and drains the area.

The district of Cusca borders in the west with the district Aco , in the north with the districts Cabana and Conchucos (both in the province Pallasca ), in the east with the districts Ragash , Cashapampa and San Juan (all three in the province Sihuas ), in the southeast the district of Yuracmarca ( province of Huaylas ) and in the southwest to the districts of La Pampa and Yánac .
