The district of San Juan is located in the province of Sihuas in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on March 14, 1964. It has an area of ​​211 km². The 2017 census counted 6,722 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6351, in 2007 it was 6363. The district administration is located in the 2725  m high village of Chullín with 172 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chullín is 11.5 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Sihuas .

Geographical location

The San Juan District is located in the southwest of the Sihuas Province. The southwest and western district boundaries run along the continental divide . The area is drained to the east via the Río Rupac .

The district of San Juan borders in the southwest on the district Yuracmarca ( province Huaylas ), in the west on the district Cusca ( province Corongo ), in the north on the district Cashapampa , in the northeast on the districts Sihuas and Huayllabamba , in the east on the district Sicsibamba as well in the southeast to the Pomabamba District ( Pomabamba Province ).
