The Quiches district is located in the Sihuas Province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was founded on October 7, 1914. It has an area of ​​148 km². The 2017 census counted 2,447 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2759, in 2007 it was 2779. The district administration is located in the 3012  m high village of Quiches with 576 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quiches is located 23 km northeast of the provincial capital Sihuas .

Geographical location

The Quiches District is located in the central east of the Sihuas Province. The Río Marañón and its left tributary Río Actuy limit the district to the east and north.

The district of Quiches borders in the southwest with the district Huayllabamba , in the west with the district Chingalpo , in the north with the district Acobamba , in the east with the districts Taurija and Santiago de Challas (both in the province of Pataz ) and in the south with the district Alfonso Ugarte .
