The Huayllabamba district is located in the Sihuas Province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was established on January 26, 1956. It has an area of ​​277 km². The 2017 census counted 3762 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4429, in 2007 it was 4227. The district administration is located in the 3318  m high village of Huayllabamba with 350 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayllabamba is 7 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Sihuas .

Geographical location

The Huayllabamba District is located in the central southeast of the Sihuas Province. In the south, the district is bounded by the Río Sihuas and Río Rupac .

The district of Huayllabamba borders in the southwest with the district San Juan , in the west with the districts Sihuas and Ragash , in the north with the district Chingalpo , in the northeast with the districts Quiches and Alfonso Ugarte , in the southeast with the district Parobamba ( province Pomabamba ) as well as in South to the Sicsibamba district .
