The Chingalpo District is located in the Sihuas Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district was established on June 14, 1958. It has an area of ​​173 km². The 2017 census counted 950 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1398, in 2007 it was 1155. The district administration is located in the 3128  m high village of Chingalpo with 482 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chingalpo is located 24 km north of the provincial capital Sihuas .

Geographical location

The Chingalpo District is located in the north of Sihuas Province. The area is drained via the Río Actuy to the east to the Río Marañón .

The Chingalpo district borders in the southwest on the Ragash district , in the northwest on the Conchucos district ( Pallasca province ), in the northeast on the Acobamba district , in the east on the Quiches district and in the south on the Huayllabamba district .
