The Acobamba District is one of 10 districts in the Sihuas Province in the Ancash administrative region in Peru . On June 22, 1962, Acobamba officially became a district of Sihuas. In the 2017 census, 1612 people lived in an area of 153.04 km². In 1993 the population was 1750, in 2007 it was 2004. The seat of the district administration is the 3140 m high village of Acobamba with 226 inhabitants (as of 2017). Acobamba is located 26 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Sihuas .
Geographical location
The Acobamba District is located in the north of the Sihuas Province. The Río Marañón River flows north along the northeastern district boundary. Its left tributaries Río Actuy and Río Mayas limit the district in the southeast and in the northwest.
The Acobamba district borders in the southwest on the Chingalpo district , in the northwest on the Conchucos district ( Pallasca province ), in the northeast on the Chillia and Taurija districts (both in the Pataz province ) and in the southeast on the Quiches district .
