The Chincha Alta district is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on January 2, 1857 has an area of 238.34 km². At the 2017 census, there were 66,349 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 49,748, in 2007 it was 59,574. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Chincha Alta in the extreme southwest of the district at an altitude of 97 m . Chincha Alta is the only parish in the district.
Geographical location
The Chincha Alta district is centrally located in the Chincha province. The district has a longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE direction of 30 km and a maximum width of 14 km. In the extreme southwest is the settlement area in the district. In the northeast of the district rise the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . A desert landscape stretches out at the foot of the mountains.
The Chincha Alta district is bordered in the far southwest by the Chincha Baja , Sunampe and Grocio Prado districts , in the west by the Pueblo Nuevo district , in the northeast by the Chavín and San Juan de Yanac districts and in the southeast by the Alto Larán district .
