The Grocio Prado district is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district was established on December 7, 1944. It was named after José Santos Grocio Prado Linares (1857-1880), a Chincha military man who fought for the independence of Cuba and the Philippines and who finally fell in the Battle of Alto de la Alianza near Tacna. The district has an area of ​​190.53 km² (according to other sources: 178 km²). At the 2017 census, there were 25,294 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 14,674, in 2007 it was 20,621. The district administration is located in the 93  m high city of San Pedro with 24,051 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro is located in the northwest of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial capital Chincha Alta , just under 3.5 km from the city center.

Geographical location

The Grocio Prado district is located in the far northwest of the Chincha province. The district has an 11 km long coastline on the Pacific Ocean and extends 20 km inland. In the north there is desert vegetation. Some irrigated agriculture is practiced in the south. The settlement area of ​​the district is in the extreme south. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the district near the coast.

The Grocio Prado district borders in the northwest on the San Vicente de Cañete district ( Cañete province ), in the northeast on the Pueblo Nuevo district and in the south on the Chincha Alta , Sunampe and Tambo de Mora districts .
