The district of San Pedro de Huacarpana is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district was established on September 22, 1951. It has an area of ​​277 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,032 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1357, in 2007 it was 1576. The district administration is located in the 3796  m high village of San Pedro de Huacarpana with 291 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro de Huacarpana is located 45 km northeast of the provincial capital Chincha Alta .

Geographical location

The district of San Pedro de Huacarpana is located in the extreme northeast of the province of Chincha. The longitudinal extent in NW-SE direction is 30 km, the maximum width about 12 km. The district is located in the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The district is divided into two parts. The south-western part is drained southwards via the Quebrada Yanac. There is Liscay as the main town with 281 inhabitants. The Río San Juan (also Río Tantara) flows along the eastern border of the district and drains the northeastern part of the district.

The district of San Pedro de Huacarpana is bordered to the south and southwest by the district of San Juan de Yanac , to the west by the district of Chavín , to the north by the districts of Azángaro and Madean (both in the province of Yauyos ) and to the east by the districts of Chupamarca , Tantara and Huamatambo (all three in Castrovirreyna Province ).
