The district of San Juan de Yanac is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on February 12, 1965 has an area of ​​500.4 km² (according to other sources 442 km²). At the 2017 census, there were 1,129 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 946, in 2007 it was 471. The district administration is located in the 2550  m high town of San Juan de Yanac with 315 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Juan de Yanac is located 45 km northeast of the provincial capital Chincha Alta .

Geographical location

The district of San Juan de Yanac is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the Chincha province. The district extends over part of the river valleys of the Quebrada Almacén (in the west) and the Quebrada Ayoque (in the east). In the western river valley are the towns of Almacén and San Luis de Huanupiza, in the east the main town of San Juan de Yanac. Both rivers flow south and flow into the Río San Juan . The lowest point in the district is around 1000  m , the highest at 4471  m .

The district of San Juan de Yanac borders in the northwest on the district Chavín , in the north on the district San Pedro de Huacarpana , in the extreme northeast on the district Huamatambo ( province Castrovirreyna ), in the east on the district San Juan (also in the province Castrovirreyna) , in the south to the Alto Larán district and in the extreme southwest to the Chincha Alta district .
