The Sunampe district is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwestern Peru . The district founded on December 22, 1944 has an area of 16.2 km². At the 2017 census, there were 30,286 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 17,594, in 2007 23,969. The district administration is located in the 76 m high town of Sunampe with 29,667 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sunampe is located 3.5 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Chincha Alta .
Geographical location
The Sunampe district is located in the west of the Chincha province. It has a longitudinal extension of 5.2 km in east-west direction and a width of 3.7 km. It lies in the desert coastal plain and is separated from the Pacific coast by a strip one kilometer wide .
The Sunampe district is bordered to the west by the district Tambo de Mora , on the north by the district Grocio Prado , on the east by the district Chincha Alta and the south by the District of Chincha Baja .
