The Alto Larán district is located in the Chincha province of the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on January 29, 1965 has an area of ​​365 km². At the 2017 census, there were 8,085 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 4285, in 2007 it was 6220. The district administration is located in the 137  m high town of Alto Larán with 5849 inhabitants (as of 2017). Alto Larán is located 6 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Chincha Alta .

Geographical location

The Alto Larán district is centrally located in the Chincha province. It extends along the lower reaches of the Río San Juan . In the east rise the foothills of the Western Cordillera , in the west lies the desert-like coastal plain.

The Alto Laran district is bordered to the west by the District of Chincha Baja , in the northwest on the district Chincha Alta , in the north-east by the district of San Juan de Yanac , on the east by the district Capillas ( province Castrovirreyna ) and in the south by the district of El Carmen .
